Just got the transmission back in....

I just got home from work, drove it around a bit, thing is loud. Worst is third gear, which I am in alot. First I can live with, I'm only in that gear for so long. Sucks after all that work/money/time, I may look into a Datsun conversion. I just don't think I can take that noise.
Can anyone tell me what Datsun trans is used in these conversions?

I have a local Datsun enthusiast who I know well enough to get a trans for dirt cheap, so this may be the way to go. Now I just need BillM to fly over and install it for me

You want a Datsun 210 - <span style="font-weight: bold">not a B210</span>.

The 60A and the 60L both will fit the tunnel of any Spridget.

Dog leg layout gearboxes are desirable on performance automobiles because in road racing more frequent shifting occurs from second to third than from first to second gear.

Some also say taking off in 2nd instead of 1st is nicer, but I haven't played with that.

FS5W60L = dogleg pattern and .846 gear ratio in 5th gear
With the 3.7 rear end this should produce 3384 rpm at 70mph

FS5W60A = standard pattern and .821 gear ratio in 5th gear
With the 3.7 rear end this should produce 3284 rpm at 70mph

I bought a sprite with 90 wt in the gear box and it shifted fine except a little slow. Quiet though. When I changed it I changed to straight 50 wt which is what I have always used in Brit gearbox's.
