Found a 65 Sprite last spring had been sitting in a garage in the same place since 1974. Little rust behind front fenders at base, hood in bad condition and someone had broken the spoke steering wheel. Other than that she looked solid, has most of the parts including the top and I was told it was driven into the garage unfortunately the keys are lost. She cost me a dollar for the title. I couldn't pass it up. Now home in my garage stripped to the bare metal sitting on jack stands, waiting for me to come at her with a wrench on any given occassion. Not a mechanic but have tinkered around, Had a 66 B in the 70's. I come to you seeking any knowledge or insight you may be willing or able to offer. I do have a question for today, was working on the rear axels and drum brakes and would like to remove the rear drum plate on the right side. Unable to get the hub of or axel out on that side, I do not see any other screws or nuts to remove. Is the axel possibly held in place by a clip inside the differential. The left axel easily sliped out. Looking forward to many hours with you all will contribute whenever I can.

Thanks to all in advance

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum. I've never worked on a Sprite but if it's the same rear end as a 3000 there are 2 screws that hold the drum (car has solid wheels not wires)
and there is philips screw holding the axle in place. Can you look at the one that you have off for screw holes? If there are none you may need to adjust the brake shoes to release the brakes also maybe the park brake. Just guessing though. If you don't have any luck try the MG forum ,I think a midget may be the same as a Sprite. Toney Barnhill should be able to help you with the information. Bob

Bob,Thank you for the suggestions, I already have the shoes off and have removed the phillips head. I will give the MG forum a try as a Sprite and Midget of this year are pretty much one of the same. Mark

Hi Mark, good to have you on the forum. I redid a '74 Midget for a neighborhood boy about 5 years ago. Completely rebuilt the body and the engine, and all ancelary parts. put new rear left springs in and had the axles out. I don't remember anythng special about pulling the axles. Just loosen the screws on the axle flange and pull if i remember correctly. But it could be stuck pretty good. I'm sure somewhere between here and the MG forum you'll get plenty of help.
