We're under the approach to an airbase here: I ~ALWAYS~ I.D. the craft from the sounds, be it rotor-wing or fixed... friends think I'm prescient (or NUTS!). It pays to know what's overhead!

Another 'thing' is: If I exit a less-used door, I will ALWAYS look UP... a fifty-ish non-serving friend remarked to me one day: "I notice when you walk out the back door here, you always look up. Why do you do that?"

I was so upset......I transferred to the infantry.....big mistake!

Missed those "charge 8" shock-waves & 80' muzzle flashes.

I went back and took over a 109 section.
Not the brutal concussive blast of a 8" but, satisfying nonetheless. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sadly.......I talked to a young guy in the artillery recently............No one yells FIRE anymore.

A computer does it, after you punch in a command.

Now they have impersonal autonomous, animatronic blasters
