Hi...new to this forum...just received my 1964 Triumph TR4...drove a 1960 TR3 for years and wanted to get another Triumph...Marla DSCF5832.jpgDSCF5833.jpgDSCF5854.jpg

Welcome. Your TR4 looks super sharp....always have liked disc wheeled 4's. You'll find there are a large number of really knowledgeable folks here who can help make your ownership most enjoyable. I learn something new every day.
 
Congrats - your TR4 looks great.

It is hard to tell in the photo, but is the 'ear' on the gas cap possibly pointing rearward? If so you will want to turn the cap so it is pointing to the driver's side.

If a TR4 gas cap points rearward it will hit (and mar) the boot lid when the lid is fully raised.

I suspect what you're seeing are not Allen screws at all - but the hollow ends of the roll pin that secures the hinge of the cap. I any case, you do not need to mess with that.

Andy's got it right, the neck of the upper section (that includes the cap) fits in a hose and is clamped.

It is remotely possible of the clamp is not very tight that you may be able to rotate the cap and its fitting as is - but more likely you will need to loosen the clamp for which you will need to remove the fibreboard backer in the boot that covers the tank. Just a few screws to remove. Then pray that whoever installed the clamp did it from the boot side and the clamp nut is accessible from there.

The fun begins!

Congrats on the purchase, the car looks nice, seemed like there were a lot of TR4s that color in my area when I was a young man, used to not like the color, but it has grown on me.

The gas filler work for its purpose no matter how you orient it, and many of them are mounted the "wrong" way. Easy fix if you wano to change it. The will often turn pretty easy uf you just twist it. As set up you can pull into the gas station an fill up just as easily from either side...

LOL...no sweetie...my ex drove the TR3 into Puget Sound after getting drunk at a New Year's eve party...the only thing I was able to salvage was the gear shift knob which I now have on the TR4...the idiot ended up selling the TR3 for $25.00...nice huh?...Marla
