Just another day at the track.

Thought I'd share some views of a pretty fun day I had today. I went to the CVAR vintage races at College Station, Texas. Great time, but the best part was when I bumped into one of the race marshals who was looking for a pace car for one of the races. I just happened to have one!

Lots of different cars out there, great to watch. Here's a few, more can be seen here

Hey! #29 DP TR4 is a clubmate of mine, Bob Kramer! I forgot he was going to be up there this weekend. Cool pics!

Yep, finally got to meet Bob, very nice guy. Beautiful car too. His son was driving his new (old) TR4 vintage racer, but had to drop out with some clutch troubles. Greg Blake was there too sorting out his TR3A.

The Texas World Speedway track is a little worn on the edges, but I definitely recommend it as a nice outing location with the CVAR events. Its great to walk around the paddock and check out the cars. Maybe we can drum up some support to get the Texas TR clubs to convene there on one of those events.

This one touched a nerve with me:

That's worth the price of admission on its own.

+1 on the sign as well.

I Like the baseball cap style helmets you had on in the Pace car. I'm sure it was a ton of fun, and great pictures. As for which one I would like. Any of them as long as I was on the track racing. I used to enjoy racing snowmobiles back east though.

Gee Mallard, You should have said something sooner, I have an old race car with a current SCCA log book sitting out back you can rent or buy . I would even crew for you for free. What do you think? Bill C. Mesa, Az.

Oh, man...
I knew there was something TR related that I was missing this weekend, but I had a few other plans. I ran a few errands in the morning, and had the TR6 out. Spotted a BRG TR3 at the light of Huffsmith and Spring Cypress -looked like Mikes, but the driver was tall and had hair. The weather was great. I think anyone that didn't get their car out with the top down did the car a major disservice.

I'd been out there before and loved walking around the staging area and checking out the cars closely. I also liked walking out to where you could smell the cars racing by. I'm sure it was as fun as the pictures look. ...maybe next time.

It would be great fun to drive on that track. Randy, if I were the jealous type, I would be. Are there any special qualifications to be a pace car?

You mean other than the owner has to be good looking?

Nope, there wasn't anything to it, they evidently try to pull in cars from the crowd to use. Not really a drawback, but you have to sit on the side of the car with no steering wheel, which for me I think was a first time I was a passenger in my own car. I'd love to do it again, but if I did I'd get a movie going of the lineup behind the car.

Those pictures are awful.....just awful I tell ya! Awful because it just makes me want to go vintage racing all that much more!!!!

As for which one I want - since the Jag is "spoken" for, I'll gladly ride away in that little green and yellow Lotus, if no one objects...

Bill with my Scottish heritage I'm not sure I should be in a German car (Porsche). OK maybe I'll give it a try.
