Just a tad too tight

Yesterday I replaced the window winder mechanism and motor on the passenger side window of my son's PT Cruiser. The plastic piece that attaches the cable to the regulator broke and of course you can't just buy the plastic piece. The whole thing comes as a unit, including a new motor.

All went well on the installation until the very end. The bottom of the glass fits into a pair of rubberized clamps, set about 8 inches apart on a metal cross piece. I was actually trying to be careful when I thightened the clamps onto the glass, but you can guess what happened! As I was tightening the second clamp, the glass suddenly shattered into a million pieces.

I have an appointment with Safelite this afternoon to replace the glass to the tune of $300!

Does your insurance cover it?

All glass is fickle, tempered even moreso.

Isn't it amazing just how much glass comes out
when you break it?

Sorry about your experience!!

Reminds me of my old Audi (1986... old is relative). I got so good at replacing the window regulators, I once replaced the passenger side while my friend was driving on the interstate; we were on a road trip to go hiking somewhere.

 That's evidence the "riding mechanic" is not disappeared, Mike!
