July 4th weekend - count the sports cars you see

Re: July 4th weekend - count the sports cars you s

Well, on the way to the Sportscar Workshops for the cookout and fireworks, I saw a Volvo P1800 coupe and a Porsche 944. That was it.

At the event I say about 50 cars including Alfa Romeo, Lambourghini, Ferrari, Maserati, Datsun Fairlady roadster, Fiat, MG, Triumph, Lotus, Jaguar, Renault Alpine, Panhard, Turner (think pre-Bugeye fiberglass), Austin-Healey, and one Nash.

Jeesh... Watkins was pretty dry today. I spotted a pair of Alfas (one hardtop, one roadster), an MG midget, a Bugeye Sprite at Smallys Garage, a stock Model A sedan, a 32 Ford sedan rat-rod, and my dads MGB.
But as we sat at the Ice cream shop "the Great Escape" on the main drag in Watkins, we musta seen 200 or so motorcycles ride by. not in big groups, just all in town. WG seems to be a growing destination for bikers.

Re: July 4th weekend - count the sports cars you s

Saw about 40 T-Series MGs today. I'll see an additional 100 or so tomorrow. Also an MGC GTS and MGB GT on the highway, a TR-6, a couple pre-war MGs and a few odd moderns (Miatas, BMWs, couple Ferraris)

Stayed home, so I only saw one, in pieces in my backyard. In fact I was under it for awhile.

I like the fact that in the second picture the only car with its hood up appears to be a modern one.

Re: July 4th weekend - count the sports cars you s

I didn't go out much, but I did see a few Miatas, and a couple of Porsches.

Re: July 4th weekend - count the sports cars you s

some kid down the street bought himself a faded blue Sunbeam Alpine with "Agent 99" plates that he's been driving the pants off for the last few weeks. Othern' him I saw nothing.... oh yeah... if you don't count my buddy's Mini that sits next to the fridge in his garage that I don't even notice anymore when grabbing a CAB...

Re: July 4th weekend - count the sports cars you s

Ya need a change of scenery, Jim. C'mon down here, reach fer a CAB outta my beer locker. You can NOT notice an Elan fer a while! :jester:

I waited for a slower group to guide them around the next set of turns. When I pulled up to the main group, I saw the MINI with the hood up and laughed at the irony. As it turns out he was letting something cool off, probably an accessory of some sort.

Re: July 4th weekend - count the sports cars you s

well Steve , unless someone is still out there taking pictures , it looks like you WON.....

of course the winner buys the beers so we will be all waiting for you

Anyway probably the next weekend to do this is around the Monterey historics week.....

Unless someone wants to do it sooner......

Sounds like just what the Doctor ordered.... now that the 4th is over and gas dropped 40 cents to _only_ $4.39/gal I should fill up the hoopty and head for FL.

Actually i saw a RB MGB this morning on the way to work. It was that 'puke' color that Kenny seems to favor.

Re: July 4th weekend - count the sports cars you s

Here's my tally -- didn't attend a car show, but went to my hometown in Vermont (and none are mine):

XK120 coupe (dad)
Austin Healey 3000 Mk III (my dad)
MG TC (my dad)
MG TF (my dad's best friend)
TR3A
TR6 (x2)
MGB (x3)
Spitfire
XJS convertible
MGA
Classic Mini

Other interesting vehicles:

1932 Packard Victoria (my dad)
1909 EMF Touring Car (my dad)
Willys MB (x2)
Willys CJ2
1958 Mercedes 190 sedan

Not bad for small towns in Central Vermont!!
