John Lennon's Austin hearse...

Not at that price.

Bruce

A local restaurant owner here, Dave Gardunio, owns (or owned - I think he may have sold it) John Lennon's White Rolls that he and Yoko tooled around in in New York. Ringo was the owner before John, then sold it to him at some point.

Try $8.5 million USD for Lennon's Marcos Mantis Kind of outrageous. There are 3-4 in North America.

1971 Marcos 3 Litre

Hey, Lennon also never owned my Daimler. I'll let it go for a measly $7M /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Kind of outrageous? Really very much a lot rediculously over the top beyond belief stupidly outrageous. And then some!

Bruce

Not only over the top.....but this was never John Lennon's car, if you read the narrative (poor grammar notwithstanding) you will discover that the assertion is only that Lennon wanted to buy it.....but never did! Hmmmm, some creative writing there to be sure.

How about this......Paul McCartney has seen an MGB the same colour as mine, which must make the car worth at least $300,000 using the same kind of reasoning!

Re: Marcos Mantis

Quite the story, and the Earl's Court prototype as well.

But still... The Mantis was never a world famous car, and no Mantis will ever be worth even close to $8.5M /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif the vendor wants more money than the highest Bugatti goes for...

"the only sports-car in the world, which John Lennon could never own " .

He can't own any of mine either. As I read it all again, what a load of hype. I really think the seller put the decimal point 3 spaces in the wrong direction.

I just read the ad for the Marcos. What a steaming pile of freshly laid bull. Pass me the shovel.

"5th dimension" - if time is 4, what's 5? Hyperbole.

Actually my favourite bit was the quote

" This exhilarating dream, comes complete with inspection and vettings by David V. Ellison BA (Hons)."

What exactly does a BA qualify this gentleman to vet?

Geography papers perhaps? or History at a push... And if he's an expert on the vehicles, why bother with the BA part at all?

I for sure don't put BEng(Hons) after my signature. I'd be mortified...

BINGO! We're allowed to experience the 'dimension of Hyperbole' simply by ~reading~ that load of rubbish. I know MY head is still spinning!
