A Northwest Airlines jet overflying the Minneapolis airport by 150 miles before crew members discovered their mistake and turned around.
The F A A said the crew told authorities they became distracted during a heated discussion over airline policy and lost track of where they were.
Whoo...............Who says it's safer to Fly.
Drive..Drive...Drive...

Ah, but wasn't the heated argument REALLY over whether they'd WANT to stop there, or keep going 'til they got to someplace like... Hawaii, or Tokyo, or Peking, or anyplace but....

All I have to say is "You snooze, you lose" or in this case gain. I think they are now saying that pilots were nodding off in the cockpit, all attibutable to pilot fatigue, which is not rare and probably more commonplace than we know. Just returned from New England from the Land of Enchantment and can say that when one takes a week off for vacation, that translates into 5 days as the first and last day is just travel and none too pleasant. Whenever possible I prefer to drive and go at my pace - no running to different gates at opposite ends of airport (Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, etc.) and last minute gate changes, middle seat and two oversized passengers on either side and all the other dismal adventures. Had to take the tram in DFW and I thought I was going to get thrown from one end of the car to the other - fortunately I had a death grip on the pole and figured my carry-on could fend for itself. What with most airlines charging for luggage, everyone now has a carry-on. American Airlines did have one fellow try is 'carry-on' in the fitting kiosk. He managed to mash it in and when told it was okay, couldn't get it out of the measuring device and I asked 'loudly', can he take the fitting kiosk with him. Flight attendant decided that indeed it was too large. Also why is that when seated in the front of the plane and usually last to board unless of course you are first or business class, all the bins over your seat are filled? The back bins, however, are empty. Interesting.

Okay, I'll quit - just venting.

P.S. Husband is a commercial pilot - bet he won't like this. lol

I can remember a few times that I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I missed my exit and had to drive several miles until I could turn around and backtrack. Never thought about how this would be if you were flying.

I think they really wanted to go to Vegas...But couldn't remember the ATM password
for more money!!!

Didnt that comuter that crashed a while back on the east coast have them talk about there hours!
May be time to take piolts out of the plane auto piolts dont chet chat and forget the time and flaps.

If you dont love to fly dont fly my Flight!

texas bugeye, all the "sleep studys" have found that a 10-15 minute nap for flight crew members is of great benefit, the outfit i flew with allowed its crews to do so not simultaneously of course starting in 1983, the F.A.A. knows this as well but isnt smart enough to come up with a method of explaining it to the flying puplic, lets face it telling your passengers that your crews are napping in flight might have a tendancy to decline revenues.

They now claim to have been on their own computers and lost track of the time.
Are either one of them members of this Forum?

not me.... I'm one of those econo guys... sitin in the back... that have to buy all my own drinks!!
