Electrical miss, higher RPM. I drove a Jeep... feh.

Definitely electrical. Got it back to the hovel sputterin'.

Under hood I started givin' it th' "wiggle test". Got to the injector harness, wiggle-wiggle, STONE DEAD!! There's a wire in there wot ain't a wire no more. T'morrow we cut.

BWUHAAHAAHAAA!!!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Fair warning on the crank position sensor and wiring as well...
Ask me how I know...

I thought about the CPS, but the wiggle test resulted in the: "Ah-HAH!!!" moment.

Man, this sounds hauntingly fermiliar......... you sure it's a Jeep an' not a Volvo wagon in 4X4 tires.
Check the injector/radio supression relay!!!! hehehehehehe.
Give it heck Doc!!

I'm gonna give it STICK, Benny. Good 'old school' paggerin'!

SORTED!!!

Further investigation (in actual DAYLIGHT) revealed the CPS harness rubbing the exhaust header. Chafed/burned thru one of the three conductors, wiggling the harness grounded the silly thing. 15 minutes with some solder and heat-shrink, a bit of rerouting and the thing runs FINE again.

Well.... as fine as a Jeep CAN run. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

SteveL called it.

Now you *KNOW* what I know...

Yup!

This guy had a "hammer mechanic" change the clutch a while back, the mook left the CPS harness dangle unattached to its tie-down point... when I spied the wires thumping the header as I wiggled, it was obvious. I reached down the length of it and was skewer'd on a finger by a bare piece of copper wire!

Patrick, no matter how I try, a Jeep just doesn't get my level of enthusiasm up to anywhere past "mundane"... sorry. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Doc:

I am stuck with one as my daily, so I know.

Pat

They're fun with a manual tranny, but nowhere near LBC territory. I love my XJ to pieces but it'll never be my favorite - THAT spot belongs to Charlotte.
