Jeep hacked!

Yikes! A former co-worker who shall remain nameless once worked for on of "those" gov. Organizations. She was scary good at that kind of stuff.

Well, at least we don't have to worry about that with our LBCs. Even if our cars had onboard computers, the Lucas wiring would render them useless to a hacker.

hmmm - I wonder when we'll finally realize that if you can use wireless from your <car, airplane, train, etc.>, others can use wireless to your <car, airplane, train, etc.>

And when our <car, airplane, train, etc.> becomes fully automated, without occupant guidance while moving ... heaven he'p us!

Futurama probably never envisioned computing and computer control/use like it has evolved into. I expect they saw it as something not really accessible outside it's own narrowly defined use parameters where it couldn't really be reprogrammed on the fly from an outside network. Remember, computers were only starting to move to more general use type machines.

Keep this hacking in mind for all the smart home devices coming on the market. Want to turn on the heat or AC, start dinner or laundry while heading home?? Well, someone else can start or stop them too if they really want.

The only reason I can think of to link the entertainment system to the ECU is to keep people from installing aftermarket stereo systems. That way they have better leverage to keep monthly subscriptions flowing in for Pandora like services. Not to mention those $800 "premium" systems manufacturers sell are equal to a $49 aftermarket head unit.

Hacking, 1920s style.

When my dad was a teen, the family spent a few days in a big hotel somewhere in upstate New York.

On the last day, dad noticed the wall plate over the room's heating control was loose. He removed the cover, and saw that the wires for the next room were also behind the plate.

So he switched the wires.

Must have been loads of fun when folks in those two rooms tried raising/lowering their room heat.
