basil, as a 13 year old kid my family moved to sacramento california, one early morning i was awoken by what i thought was thunder then i was thrown out of bed and onto the floor, it was just a small earthquake but it really scared the heck out of me, felt totally helpless, its for sure an event i never want to experience again, i just cant imagine an earthguake with the magnitude of this one in japan, and how badly all those people were effected, and all those poor people that lost there lives.

I experienced a minor earthquake in Greece when I was in the Air Force. It was early morning and my bed started moving back and forth. I thought someone was shaking my bed trying to wake me up. No real damage, other than a few ceiling tiles that fell down. It was a very strange feeling though.

You never get used to Earthquakes. Trust me, I live in Earthquake territory. Minor ones, yes, but not big ones.

The one I experienced was relatively small and the epicenter was quite a long way off.
