We have had no snow so far this season and the roads are dry. I took the opportunity to take the Healey out. I've never driven the Healey in January before. Air temps in the high 50's. Not great for the skiers but when life gives you lemons.......
 
Great time to drive- whenever you can. I ALMOST got the ol' gal out, but really needed to get the battery topped off. No snow (except for the shaded areas), and about 46 degrees, so definitely would have been nice. Glad to hear you got to get a drive in.
 
If only I didn't have to bleed the brakes again...(had to replace the defective master with a new one).

And it SEEMS that after installing a new fuel tank, fuel pump, blowing out the line, I finally filled the tank with some gas and it is now idling without stalling...or so it seems. And yes, I also added a new fuel filter between the tank and the pump and all electrical connections refurbished, plus a new sending unit. The pump sounds good and strong with fuel going through.

Well, I shall see what happens on the road in due time.

Yes, the weather is good here in Jersey (or was).

If only I had working brakes now.

Looks like we're in for a severe drought year here in California. New Year's Day forecast was for 70degF and clear, so I fired up the BJ8 for a short spin. One of many good driving routes here in the SF Bay Area is a loop south along the coast hills that runs through the Almaden Valley and back up through Morgan Hill along Santa Teresa Road. Part of the route, on Uvas Road, goes by several reservoirs used to store water for various local districts (I call this the 'reservoir inspection' route). Looks like the water districts seriously misjudged the weather/climate and drained all these reservoirs to nearly empty in anticipation of large fall/winter rains. If we don't get at least a few heavy rains these water districts are going to be in serious trouble.
 
Like everybody else (except for in the Netherlands), weather in northern Mass has been warm too. I would love to take the 100/6 out for a spin, but in anticipation of the end of the driving season, I pulled the dash out to recover which led to pulling the heater to replace the heater valve and clean up the heater box. My wife's Bugeye is still running (with a new to the car hard top)so out we go.

Least of our problems. No moisture means more fires. Last one missed us by 600 feet.
For the skiers, the man made stuff is great! But trails limited.
 
So, dirty Healeys?
What we have been told is that we will get dumped on end of January through March. Because last year was epic the reservoirs have enough water to get California by for another year.
But if you all will kindly wash and wax all your cars the snow gods will respond.
We hear this is not all carbon based global warming but has to do with the gigantic dam in China. The lake formed there has changed the dynamics of the jet stream. So, who really knows.
Anyway, I get to drive my Healey instead of Ski. Not a real bad trade off. Do you know now nice Healeys run in 40 to 50 degree temps?

My BJ8 runs very cool--160degF give-or-take. Anyone else see that 'problem?' It's done this through several thermostats, and I've checked at least one in boiling water and it worked correctly. I can't believe air-cooling alone will keep a big 6 running that cool, but that's what I'm seeing.
 
Strange that these cars, famous for overheating, can also run too cool. Must be an obscure Law of Thermodynamics at play here. My Ford Ranger used to behave like that, but it was a defective thermostat (a known problem with those trucks).

Assuming your gauge is accurate? Have you checked your temp gauge for calibration?
 
Mine runs at 160 to 165 as yours does, Bob. I have checked it with an infrared gun. Every one tells me it is too cool by 20 degrees.
 
Yeah, I've checked the gauge against a thermometer. On warmer days it runs at a steady 180degF, which is the thermostat set point. When I shut down when it's hot the gauge goes right to 212deg and stays there until it cools down, so I'm pretty sure the gauge is accurate.
