January 29 - So Cal Coffee Meet

Sorry for the last minute status of this announcement, but my computer crashed and I haven't been able to log on for a couple of weeks. Today, in desperation, unplugged everything, opened up the side panel, vacuumed out the dust, reassembled the unit, banged on the top a few times, and everything seems to be working fine again. (Wish the solution to my Healey's engine problem were so easy!)

Wow, what a scare! Not only could I not log on, I thought I lost all my pictures - hundreds of them, not one of which has ever been backed up, of course. Guess I'll got out and buy one of those flash drive thingies and put it to good use, and also get around to printing out the really good ones one of these days.

In the meantime, this Sunday, January 29, 9:00 a.m., at the Golden Cove Center located at the intersection of Hawthorne Blvd. and Palos Verdes Dr. West in Rancho Palos Verdes, there is going to be another "Healey coffee meet," titled "Healey" mainly because the organizers both own Healeys. However, any and all marques are invited to attend, so hope to see you there!

Arrrgh, I sooooo want to come but I'm out of town this weekend. Have fun and post some pix.

Great place to meet by the way. PV Dr. West was like the first place I drove my Jensen Healey when I bought it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

(I grew up in Torrance, bought the car on a used car lot on PCH in Hermosa Beach. The original owner took delivery at a Lotus dealer on PCH in Manhattan Beach.)

(ps- not that I've gotten around to it myself, but for backing data in the short term a hard drive gives a better data/$ ratio and is faster than flash. For long term storage like family pix I'd recommend burning them onto archival grade CDs. I don't trust hard drives or flash media for long term storage. The $%@#! Sandisk SD card swallowed all my pix of our BCF, Huntington Beach to San Clemente cruise and refuses to give them back./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif)

HI PC,

Sorry you won't be able to make it this Sunday.

I remember those dealers on PCH! Also an old Porsche dealership that used to be there, Vasek Polak, I think. My first Healey club ride was around the PV peninsula when I first got the car 30 years ago - you were probably a toddler at the time!

Thanks for the info re long term storage. Gotta get into gear on this stuff!

Sharon

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I wish. 30 years ago I was "borrowing" my sister's Opel Manta to drive around Palos Verdes.

Oh, yeah, Vasek Polak Porsche, for years he kept a LeMans 917k and a Can-Am 917-10 on the showroom floor. Awesome stuff.

PC, I have a few freeware data recovery programs that work very well if you need them (and are spyware / adware free). They are small so they can be emailed.

Sharon, I don't think I will be able to make the meeting but thanks for the heads up! It's a bit far and I'm short on time this weekend.
