Jan '08 "AUTOMOBILE" Magazine

...has an article on the MGB GT & they call it the "Porsche Cayman of yesteryear"!! Yes, they mention its always been called the "poor man's Aston Martin" but "Porsche Cayman of yesteryear"??

Pretty good little article...I like the way they value the little MGB GT's "Top-notch restored cars peak between $15K and $20K....Decent, driveable examples can start as low as $2500." Okay, so I've got 4 nice ones in my collection (well, one is an GC GT)...at even $10K apiece that's $40K just in GT's!!

Re: Jan '08 "AUTOMOBILE" Magazine

I tried to find that article on their web site as they put out a lot of information there, but no luck. I guess their not publishing the article on the web.

Always thought the BMW Z3 coupes were the close to the MGB/GT concept.

Thank goodness the MG was pre-B(angle).

There's another article that went along with that one.....

It doesn't make me think twice about heading anywhere in any old car. It makes me think they should have gone through the car before setting off!

Re: Jan '08 "AUTOMOBILE" Magazine

Thank you Steve! I read it and wuz chuckling over that thought. A bit of prep time at the beginning and weather would have been the ONLY thing to be concerned over.

'course a real knowledge of MGB's and their idiosyncrasies helps a TON in an endeavor like that. They forgot tire irons and a patch kit, too. DIY, get ON with it.

Wasn't impressed.

I needed something like this to make me feel better about The Black Car.

Re: Jan '08 "AUTOMOBILE" Magazine

Good read...I can relate, mine got me on the side of the road one time with the fuel pump going out, I was able to periodically "tap" it back to life and limped home, bad thing was I couldn't reach through the trunk to give it a whack while driving and had to pull over every time.
I realized pretty early on you didn't go anywhere without tools and spare parts, and a little luck always helped.

That they did as well as they did in a car that wasn't prepared to me speaks volumes about how good the quality was on our cars.
