A real man's man. He was inspiring and a great self-promoter. By most accounts, a good person, too. What a character! I always admired him. He must have inspired countless thousands of people to exercise and become healthier, happier. He surely did inspire me.

At 60, he swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco -- handcuffed, shackled and towing a boat. Ten years later, he performed a similar feat in Long Beach harbor."

One of these people who you wish could just go on forever, and one of the most squared-away guys on the planet.
