Jaguar XJ6 Door Locks

Electric door locks do not work. Have replaced the door lock module which is getting power. Even stuck in a different CPU. Gas cap lid unlocks sometimes. I need some ideas about how to diagnose the problem. The wiring diagram is pretty simple but I don't see what other component that could cause the problem.

You'll really need to describe the car better, Series I, II, III, XJ40, X300?

Assuming an XJ40, remember all the lock buttons have to be either UP or Down (synchronized) in order for it to work. Do you have the S57 wiring diagram? More info please

Sorry, 1992 XJ40. I have tried synchronizing more than once. I have the wiring diagram from Haynes also I have the Jaguar CD Service Manual Vol 1 - 8. What is a valet switch?

Suggest removing each interior door panel and lubing the lock mechanism connections all through the linkage with WD-40 or Kroil. You can have enough friction from age adding up together to overcome the solenoid being able to move the linkages.

Valet switch is located on the dash. Forget what the symbol looks like. It should be described in you owners manual.

Searching shows you are far from alone in this issue. However, the causes seem to be many.
Stiff mechanisms, as stated earlier, grounds and ground contacts inside door handles, one of two power supply sources to module, valet switch, etc.

Granted, one or more door lock mechanisms might be stiff--but would that cause all of the door locks not to work? Also one would expect to hear mechanisms trying to work if solenoids are getting power.

I believe there is someone out there who knows how to diagnose this problem. Where is that person?
