Well said Webserve, but in conclusion I feel it necessary to note for our friend Exotexs,that those "Thin Elegant Bumpers" read that cheap- he appears to be so enamored with ,probably came straight out of the MK11 240/340 parts bin,and OH!- the Daimler Fluted Grill will not fit a MK11 must less an "S".---Fwiw---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The S type is the refined MK-II, just like the Series 3 XJ-6 is the refined Series 1 and 2 XJ-6. The MK-II bumpers (not the MK-11) has bumpers that look like chromed railroad tracks. Someone told me the 240/340 thin bumpers came from the S type, not the other way around. Adios Mundo Cruel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

Hello all,

since the Daimler 250 is a MK 2 with the Daimler engine and slight trim changes, I would suggest that it will fit a Mk 2. I suspect also that the 'S' type grill aperture is the same as a MK 2 but that is a guess.

Alec, that's what I thought too, considering the MKII grille is the same as the S type, or so they say, but I have not tested that theory. Back in 1995 I drove to Texas to look at a Daimler 250. I was very dissapointed, very slow response, nothing like the 3.8 liter engine. I still have the pictures I took. The grille looked identical to the MKII except for the decorative "flutting". In the Series 3 XJ-6, the theory works out: the Daimler version of the XJ-6 uses the same grille shape and size except for the decorative flutting.

I have been told that the only part MK II and S-Type has common is the engine hood.

The 420G/Mk X was only produced as a 4-door.

There are often totally irrational reasons that people are led to think one model is inferior to another. Note that the Mk-I was not mentioned in the previous comments and is worth less than the II though essentially the same car.
The Mk-X and 420 G were lovely cars but out of the Jaguar image of a liethe high performance saloon. The 420's are the same size as the Mk-I and II's but with improved specification and almost as good performance being slightly heavier. I have never heard of them being raced in the saloon classes like the Mk-I and II's. Perhaps that is why they' were less loved in the past. We the public are a bunch of sheep!

BTW, I can't post a wanted in the classifieds--can't get past #2of3. Does anyone have a new XJ vS-II windscreen rubber or is parting out one?
