Well, there goes the margue! I miss the good old days when it was a pure British beast!

Nor anyone else as far as I can tell - at least not in my lifetime...

Perhaps if they all get outsourced the cars will be built better.

Then again, following the directions on the nav system might be troublesome - "Please to be turning left in 300 yards"

When we were looking at new Jag's a few weeks abo & the salesperson told us the S-Type was gonna be replaced, I asked if the company was gonna be sold...when she wouldn't answer, I marked Jaguar off the list of possible new cars for Jerri!

JagTa.....geez!
 
Come on, really!

Sounds WAY too good to be true: Tata will keep all 16,000 employees???; Ford will contribute $600M to pension/health plans; Ford will "support" marketing efforts (Ford is now a competitor!).

Sheesh, maybe Tata should get into politics. Only politicians can get away with those kinda lies! :crazyeyes:
 
Ford sold both marques for less than they paid for Jaguar all those years ago. While it quite possibly kept Jaguar alive for the last few years, it certainly wasn't a good move for Ford.

Maybe it's a form of colonial revenge. Royal Enfield (motorcycles) and now Jaguar and Land Rover in the hands of the Indians. I wish Tata the best -- if they can make the cars reliable and profitable (and desirable) I can see a possible pleasant future.

Have you guys looked under the skin of your Triumphs and MGs lately? County (brand) and others make a lot of their parts in India now. Let's see....oil pumps, shocks, etc. The list goes on.

Yeah - and a whole car made of those parts! Humm - no thank you.

But even though Jag is owned by an Indian company, it may in fact have very little to do with how the company is actually run. It is after all just money. In this global economy, nationality probably dosn't really count for much (I don't mean that in a positive or negative way - it just is).

Didn't everyone think that about Japanese cars 30 years ago? As long as they stick to the standard that the names suggest, they should be OK, maybe even a little less expensive?

If they "stick to the standard that the names suggest", and the names suggest "not very high standards" ... why would someone buy one? Lots of folks check Consumer Reports for car quality and reliability. Jag and MB show up pretty low on the lists. Yikes - is it *just* for the name and the hood ornament?

There have been more than a couple comments here recently on the declining quality of Mercedes and Jaguar. Maybe my idea of buying one that's 20-25 years old isn't so bad after all!
