Jaguar Fuel Delivery System

Does anyone know the purpose of the "Non-Return Valve" in the XJ6, Series 3, Fuel Delivery System...? What would be the symptoms if it were defective...?

"non-return valve" is High Brit for "check valve".
I would guess it keeps fuel from running all the way back into the tank when you shut down.
Imagine telling the socialite to listen until the pump slows down before you start.

Ahaa...That makes sense and the placement in the fuel line between the pump and the filter would support that as well.

Thanks
