Jack,

One of the pictures on your site shows a really cool mirror that screws into the windcreen pillar. Where did you get this from?

To quote Will Smith in Independence Day, "I gotta get me wunna dese".

I can't find it in Moss or VB.

OK, I found it on the Harley-Davidson site. Is it possible to get to the inside at that point to put the nut on?

Harley-Davidson website part number is 91930-92T.

Yep is and even comes with all the mounting hardware you need.

ncbugeye has a bigol' piece of steel covering that area on the inside, held about 1 to 2 inches away from the outer skin.

Wonder if fitting that mirror will make your car sound like a shaking plastic container half filled with rocks?
Cheers, David.

I don't know about that, but I was wondering if you could actually see anything clearly in a Harley mirror if it wasn't doing the "2-cylinder jiggle"? (Just funnin' Jack, really I like it!!)

Please Jack, can you tell me how you installed it? There is a steel panel at that point, firmly welded in place, that blocks access for actually installing the fixing nut. Unless you have drilled it all the way through this panel too, and attach the nut there...

Chris -- Tunebug doesn't have that panel (November 59 build date). The front most screw uses a captive nut, while the rear one (closer to the door) has a regular nut and washer on the inside. Wonder if that is some sort of PO addition? You have to be able to get to those nuts so you can remove the windshield.

Jack, did you get that direct from HD? I'd like to add one to my parts pile, and want to make sure I'm gong after the correct part.

The panel is definitely a factory fitted thing, welded to the firewall at the front and to the skin panel at the bottom. It floats about 1/2 inch at the top, presumably to provide stiffness, possibly for the windscreen pillar itself...

Can other bugeye owners please check if they have this panel, see pic in my previous post.

It's in an awkward location - a stretch for my old neck to get down there, and it was particuarly arduous to get the camera in there and focused correctly - but the resulting pic was very good. Full marks to the Canon Digital Rebel XT!!!

None of my (about 12) Spridgets have ever had those panels.
Chris- I think that someone did a very nicely done mod to your car but I don't think that the factory did it.
Bill

OK, I found it in the Bugeye service parts manual. It is called "Extension - 'A' post to scuttle" and it is part number 26 on page R.1

It's even shown in the Moss catalog, but not numbered. Look at the "Body panels, Bugeye" page. There is a trapezoidal shaped part, directly behind the firewall and just above and to the left of the door panel.

VB's diagram does not show it.

Possibly it may have been deleted in later bodies... Anyone have a car before 8596?

Chris, I think you are looking at the wrong side of the panel, you are too far into the car. When you open the door look at the top, just inside where the windshield post is screwed. The rear screw on the post comes into this area. The forward one does not! In the attached I have a long screw installed and that is what the mirror post will replace on Jacks setup!

I've got the same mirrors for my V8 MGB - went down to the Harley Davidson dealer & picked them up....oh, you can get them with or without the H-D emblem!

Duh!! I am so thick. I see it now. I was so fixated on the panel I didn't even realize I was looking too far inside as you said.

Thank you.

I will order this mirrror from my local H-D dealer, Ray Price Harley-Davidson.
