Jacking question

Now please don't laugh. I bought a jack and 2 jackstands at Sears (also came with a "creeper") yesterday, and I was wondering what is the best and safest way to jack up my MGB to inspect and clean the undersurfaces. Specifically, where exactly to place the jack itself and then where to place the jackstands, both for the front and rear of the car.

On another point, what do people usually use to clean chrome wire wheels. Is there a tool to get between the spokes well.

I use the front crossmember for placement of the floor jack...and place the jack stands on the front rails.

For the rear, I use the differential housing for the floor jack and place the jack stands either under the axle tubes of the diff...or just in front of the spring perches...depends upon what I'm doing.

But....I just installed a two-post lift in the barn....so my daze lying on a creeper trying to focus on things with my bifocals are over!

The trick there is to take a page from the airline pilots who wear bifocals and get a set of "double Ds" - a bifocal top and bottom - they work great for situations where you are close and have to look through the top of the lenses. For those of us with bifocals (or even trifocals for us old [censored]) even the lifts don't get you past struggling with trying to focus on things over our heads.

Yep...I understand!...in fact, my late friend and past chairman of NAMGBR, Ron Tugwell, had a pair as you describe...he was an electrician at the Monterey Bay Aquarium....and swore by them!

(At least the "Grim Creeper" will be out of commission most of the time now!)

I have viewed longingly at a catalog that offers lifts... No room in my garage and no money for it.... In California I have what can laughingly be called a TWO car garage..

Got mine from Eagle Equipment ( https://www.eagleequip.com )delivered to my property for $1699 including s/h. Installation took the equivalent of one afternoon. I installed it myself with the help of a friend. Mine is the GLO-9A with overhead cabling and a 220v motor. The GLO-9F uses across the floor cabling and can be put into a garage with a 12' ceiling.
