I worked a little on the 69 MGC today. Got the alternator problem figured out (previous owner upgraded the alternator; no need for the black (earth) wire to be attached anymore.
Now it's not starting...but I think the fuel pump has allowed smoke to escape...no ticky-ticky.

Rick - whack your fuel pump with a BFH...see if it starts ticking again

Doc, I wuz gonna ask "why do you carry a rock around"? but then I remembered, you live on a sand dune. If you find a rock keep it.
Up here I'm usually avoiding them if I hafta pull off the road. So If I gotta improvise a caveman BFH or a wheel chock, I don't hafta look very far.
I actually just bought me a new one (BFH that is) last night. 48oz ,fiberglass ,rubber gripped handled big ol' mauler!
I left my last one laying on a leaf spring and it drove away. That burned me up. I've only lost a few tools over the 12 years I've been a tec. I'm usually very careful.
Oh well, a brain toot like that sure beats gettin injured for bein careless.

Yep... BIG, open litterbox. The rock has been with me for a while. It came from Lake Erie, I needed a wheel chock years ago and found it handy for all-sorts. To include use as a "persuader" for lazy SU fuel pumps. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I HATE to lose a tool. Have all my sockets "racked" and wrenches too. If the job's done, the last thing before the vehicle rolls out is a clean/check and tool inventory of whatever left the box. Seems if I DON'T do it that way *something* inevitably comes up missin'.

Yep...already whacked it a few times....called it a day and installed fluorescent lights in the basement...so I was still productive.

I've had luck insticking the pump at speed by tuning the ignition on and off a few times (hardly a technique for the faint of heart... or intelligent).
Personally, I've not been in the garage for real garage-type-work for over sicks months... oops, six months. Had a pesky tile job suck the life outta me.
