Astro predated Scooby-Doo.

How humiliating.

Rugh rough Rorge....

I think that it's really sad that you'd
publicly admit that you know that.

I know it too and am a youngin'. Loved those growing up and now my kids really dig Scooby. Don't see the Jetsons on that much or most of the classics for that matter.

Nellybelle was even earlier.
Oh, we are talking dogs, Bullet predates Astro, but follows Asta.
Oh we are talking cartoon dogs, sorry.

I don't think that Dino counts as a dog, as he was a dinosaur, but he did play the dog role on The Flinststones. Of course we also have Spike from the earlier Tom & Jerry shorts, and Paddlefoot falls somewhere between the two.

Of course, Pluto's the Grandaddy of 'em all. Does Goofy count, being anthropomorphic? I mean, Brian Griffin from Family Guy does, even though he's anthropomorphic, cause he's a pet. The Goof's not a pet.

Was Spot -ala The Munsters, a Dinosaur?

Spot was a dragon. He'd breathe fire every time they opened up the stairs. I forget if the Addamses had any pets, other than various spiders and Uncle Fester.

Oooh, I forgot about Tintin's dog, Snowy.

Trivia: If you watch early episodes of The Avengers (the series with Honor Blackman), whenever Steed is relaxing, he's invariably reading a Tintin collection. Often in French.

The Avengers was such a great show. Anyone know if that is out on DVD?

I was a young adult when The Jetsons aired. Didn't pay much attention to it. When that other proggy came around (also "limited animation") it was even less interesting. The "Rut-roh" character didn't strike me as being plaigerized (or "redesigned") until I saw a commercial with Jetsons characters recently. Astro was in it. I'd never thought about the cloning of the two.

Yes it is. The Complete Emma Peel Megaset takes care of the Diana Rigg era, and the majority of the Honor Blackman and all the Linda Thorson episodes are available on two-disc sets.

And Linda Thorson drove a Europa! (and sometimes a AC 427(?) - but apparently she prefered the Europa, and the AC was only used in non-driving scenes).

I saw my first black leather clad Emma Peel on the Avengers. I haven't been the same since either.
