I've heard of drinking problems,

Speaking of doing inappropriate things while driving, THIS, in a Florida paper, is almost too hard to believe. [WARNING: in potentially bad taste - but it's true!]

Ok, I wasn't going to mention this, but oh well, here goes.

This past Thursday, I was driving home from a NAMI Family-to-Family class I am teaching at the local VA. It was just after 9PM and I was east-bound on I-40 "in the canyon" just east of the Albuquerque city limits.

I was in the center lane. There was an older Oldsmobile ahead of me in the left lane (passing lane). I observed the car first going five mph slower that the speed limit, then, he'd speed up, then slow down, etc. Also he was drifting all over the road. He would drift left onto the shoulder, then drift right and cross over the center lane. After following him for a couple miles, I concluded he was either DWI or maybe a too-tired driver. Whatever the case, I knew he wasn't being safe on the road. So, I did what I had to do and called the Sheriff Dept.

When on the phone with the dispatcher, I was giving a minute-by-minute update of where the guy was as they had dispatched two deputies to try to locate the car in question. I told the dispatcher what kind of car I was driving and that I had just turned on my emergency flashers to help the pursuing deputies locate me so they could locate the car in question (he was about 1/4 mile ahead of me by this time).

Within a few minutes, two Bernallilo County Sheriff SUVs came blowing by me with lights flashing and soon had the car pulled over. At this point the dispatcher asked if I would mind meeting one of the Deputies at a McDonalds off the next exit so I could give a written statement of what I saw. I agreed and a few minutes later I was in the McDonalds parking lot and the Deputy soon arrived.

After I had filled out the statement form, I handed it to the Deputy and asked if they had determined what was going on with the guy?

The Deputy replied: "Well, you're probably going to laugh."

"Ok, I'm listening," I said.

The deputy continued, "Well, it seems the guy had his girl friend with him and the girl admitted that she had been "distracting" him, but she refused to say "how" she was distracting him."

"Oh good, so I get to use my imagination!" I laughed. The Deputy laughed. I drove home.

And that boys and girls is a true story that happened just last Thursday.

happnes more than you might think. I have witnesses a similar account that happened in traffic on I10 durring Mardis Gras '95 east bound just past the Canal St exit. It couldn't have been any friendlier.

That's all I'm going to say. Feel free to use your imagination. :thirsty:

I've several friends and family who were or still are LEO's... The stories are sometimes beyond belief. That one is tame compared to others I've heard.

Reminds me of a similar incident...

My buddy and I were driving back to Indiana, PA from Sandusky, OH at about 11pm after a day at Cedar Point. We were both driving our own cars because of how many people had come along. My car is a white 2004 Impala with the police package and my buddy's car is a black 2003 Impala with the police package. We communicated back and forth using CBs. As we passed through Butler, PA on US422 rolling at 60 mph(in a posted 55) my buddy told me that there was a little Honda Civic hatchback with a "big fart pipe" passing him and was going to pass me. I noticed an odd glow in the front seat that looked like screen glow and something bobbing up and down in the back seat. With surprise I realized what was going on in the back seat and that the driver was FILMING it! Driver saw my car and quickly shut off the camera, slowed down, and got the two in the back to stop. I very rapidly slowed down fast enough that he passed me and I changed lanes and came up behind him while my buddy pulled beside him. I have never seen 3 people so panicked in my life! My buddy and I took off and called this guy's plate in. After the driver figured out he had been fooled, he passed us with the show back in full swing... Followed by a real state trooper... They were stopped a mile later.

Oh, that was you? Thanks "buddy"! :jester:

My daughter used to work at a Tim Horton's drive through window at a highway rest stop and said you wouldn't believe the things she saw. She didn't elaborate and I didn't want her to.
