I've got a twisted camshaft-to-oil pump pin. How to fix??

Tried installing camshaft into my Bugeye today but it wouldn't go in because the pin at the end of the camshaft that engages with the oil pump is twisted making it too wide to seat properly. I spoke to a cam guy and he said that one side of the pin is smaller than the other (really hard to see that!) and to whack at it with a punch until it comes out, orient it correctly, and hammer it back in. I gave it a couple whacks and then stopped when it barely budged, fearing that I was going to screw up the camshaft and create bigger problems for myself.

Any advice??

I would first see if you can locate a new cam pin, if so and you want to attempt to remove and reinstall yourself you would need to have the cam properly supported in a jig to press back in after the old pin has been cut out. Or you can contact David Anton at APT Fast to R&R pin; he’s not far from you. If you’re not set up for this kind of work David can help he’s a cam grinder.
