I've Got a load of money,from the TR6 - Pay Bills,or Buy Another Car?

"A LOT" means less than $8,000 to me,but,to me,is a huge amond of cash money.I'm trying not to blow it all,but get caught up on things that need attention,& pay off bills. When/if I get back on my feet,I'll make a donation to this website. That's always beenin the back of my mind, but life/bills got in the way. - Doug

Doug 8k is "a lot" to me too. Get rid of the debt. period. it will be a weight off your shoulders that will allow you to enjoy things like cars. After that, no new cars until you have decided about the ones you already have - either fix them and run them or fix them and sell them (or sell them - sometimes it is worth a loss just to get rid of cr*p) then, if you want/ need to you can make a decision about another car - for cash! BTW I am a big fan of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University - it made a huge difference on our lives. Debt is crippling both of our nations and its citizens and until we learn to change that, we are slaves

"Debt is crippling both of our nations and its citizens and until we learn to change that, we are slaves."

100% agree on that. Truer words have never been said. As Eisenhower said back in the 1960s, you can't borrow your way to prosperity.

Well, I've read this thread through and through, keeping my opinion to my self, just to see where this is going. From my stand point, most of us have been down this road at one time in our life, some many times. Old saying, "You can not dig your self out of a hole"! By not paying off debts when the money is available, your only making the hole deeper and harder to climb out of! Pay off your bills and you will be amazed just how good it feels. The toys will always be there, put your priority's in order, make a list if you need a reminder and stick to it. We don't know each other, but from your posts in the past, you seem like a pretty nice fella and I like to see nice people get ahead. Good luck, stick to your goals and the rewards will be fulfilling! PJ

Absolutely pay off debts. The freedom you will enjoy as a result will help you focus on what is truly important - feeling much more in control of your life. I speak from experience.

Thanks for the advice.I wrote the check today for the whole amount. It'll be great to see "$0" next to "Balance". BTW - I've NEVER written a check for that much money! - Doug

Bravo! Well done indeed. :encouragement:

And your new signature line is a great improvement!

Well done, Doug. That's got to feel good.

Doug, Enjoy your new beginning in life. Hopefully all the bad things that compound and rack up our bills is now behind you. Look at it as a way to now start over and watch what you need to what you want. Those wanted things will now be cherished as you will be working harder to not do this again. I had a large debt a few years back as posted earlier and have come out of it. Only owe on 2 cars now, but may pay one off and sell 2 and buy one I have been waiting for. Now that I am retired I plan on using everything before the end. As AngliaGt says, nobody calls a Prius cool, I keep telling them to get out of the way.
