Trying to figure out weather to pay off all my bills,
or spend part of the proceeds from the TR6,& buy a cool car,
& spend most of it paying off bills?
I HATE the idea of selling a much loved car,just to pay
off bills,but I'd love to still have another convertible.
Has anyone else here have that dilemma?

Part of me says "Just pay off the bills", while another part says-"spend a couple of thou on a cool car". I hate to spend the proceeds from selling a car that has been a"part of our Family",just to pay off bills.I got myself in this hole,but want knowI can do a "Crazy" car thing,with at least a couple of thousand dollars of the proceeds. Help me out here .............

If you have to pay bills, do so. But if you can put a few bucks aside for a toy, ever better. I struggled for a long time wanting the tr6 from my youth. I finally gave up and bought a 7 (well ok.. 2) and coundn't be happier. Cheap and fun. I hope to upgade to a 8 someday. Maybe back to a 6, but I the was the prices are going I don't see how.

Pay the bills Doug. You will be amazed how good it feels to be debt free. Another great car will come along soon enough and you won't have any guilt feeling in buying it.
 
I'm not far north of you. How bout you hire a caterer to follow your limo and we have a memorable beach dinner.
Easy come easy go.
 
You could keep $1,500-$2,000 and pick up an early Miata...cheap+reliable (mostly)+convertible. Bonus points for British inspiration!
 
I was looking into Miata's,but didn't want to spend a lot of money
getting "sidetracked" (adding aftermarket items - tax/lic.,etc.)
I'll probably just pay off the huge credit card debt that I have,&
if a great deal on a convertible comes along,get a short-term loan.
My fear is that a "great deal" will fall into my lap,& I won't have
cash on hand to move quickly on it.
On the other hand,there's a '78 Datsun B210 that been here for
over 8 years,that needs to be finished,as well as the '60 Anglia,& the
1978 Triumph Bonneville (Hey - I still have a Triumph in the garage!).

Cortinas are all gone - I'll be selling off the ton (literarly) of parts that I have.

A decent Miata is about $3,500 + around here (+tax/lic).I have 4-5 boxes of MKI Cortina Gt parts,& probably about 20of MKII parts.There are excellent MKII doors & trunk lids. - Doug

"huge" says a lot! I'd pay off credit card debt asap. While banks are offering 0.3% interest, most credit cards charge close to 20% interest on the held-over balances.

If you can pay down the balances - I'd sure choose that option.

I was laid off because of a company buy out and sold my Jag XJS, XJ6, GT6 and a bass boat to pay bills and to work on house. Now I have an 03 Cooper S for play, my wife has a MINI Countryman, my LR HSE LR4, another bass boat and an RV, plus a trailer to tow play car. Old house always needs work and am retired with time to play. Sell if you have to, to do what you need and look to the future, you may wind up with a Bentley.
 
"A LOT" means less than $8,000 to me,but,to me,is a huge amond of cash money.I'm trying not to blow it all,but get caught up on things that need attention,& pay off bills. When/if I get back on my feet,I'll make a donation to this website.That's always beenin the back of my mind,but life/bills got in the way. - Doug

There`s no doubt that most of us (Human Nature) have been in the same boat at some time!!

As someone mentioned here; "Priorities / Urgency" come into play. Pay Off or at least most of the debt that has to be pd. off "NOW"!!

Should you have some $$$ left over to buy a "TR Project"; You know it`ll probably sit around for the next decade cause of the cost to repair / replace. Yeah, Maybe a "Miata" in decent shape for $3K - $4K will fill the need for a "Top Down" 2 seat cruiser but as you know; $3K - $4K will get you a "Project" TR of somesort.

Just my $0.02.
