Sure, those places have been at rock bottom economically for years. Can't get any worse.
Actually, Madison County is at 3.8% unemployment & has more PhD's than Silicon Valley...the military base here is growing because of BRAC ($199,000,000 expansion project under construction right now!), taxes are low, the computer industry, the space industry, and several highly technical industries are here or moving here....Toyota recently built a huge plant to build their V8 engines & is expanding to where they'll have a $250,000,000 manufacturing complex here!
In addition to our growing military base, we also have the NASA Marshall Flight Center....along with the US Space & Rocxket Center & the US Space Camp.
A list of the Fortune 500 companies in our research center includes Intl. Business Machines, AT&T, Boeing, United Technologies, Lockheed Martin, Johnson Controls, Northrop Grumman, Cisco Systems, General Dynamics, Raytheon, Electronic Data Systems, Delta Air Lines, Xerox, Texas Instruments, Computer Sciences, Avnet, Arrow Electronics, L-3 Communications, ITT, Science Applications Intl., Jacobs Engineering Grp......plus ADTRAN, SAIC, Teledyne Brown Engineering, Benchmark Electronics, Inc., Benchmark Electronics, Inc. & many more...with construction going on in the research park right now! Heck, Verizon just built a $44,000,000 complex here!
Universities in the county include University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama A&M University, Faulkner University, Oakwood College, University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center.....plus numerous community & technical colleges.
....& Madison County is the fastest growing county in Alabama; & no, I don't think <span style="font-style: italic">"at rock bottom economically for years"</span> applies here!
Oh, Madison County was also recently named one of the best places in the US to raise children!
