It's true: the Tunebug needs a new home

Drew,

"What a long, strange trip it's been".It's sad to see it go after
all of your posts that we've followed since it's purchase.
On the other hand,I understand, having 10 vehicles in our posession.
Then again, there's this TR6 in my garage that I might trade for...

Good for you! It won't be easy, you will have only memories, but memories don't leak in your driveway.

It will be sad to see it go, but selling it feels like the right choice. That said, I know what I feel the car is worth, and won't sell it for less. If it isn't worth that much, I'll keep it.

The MBG is a big car and there are lots of big cars out there, but not many spridgets. To me the small size is what makes them fun. Drew, how you gonna feel in a year or two when somebody drives by and you see that bugeye smile? I understand. I got two motorcycles and a midget and then another project midget I have not even started on yet.

The MGB is only big compared to a Spridget, though my knees can sure feel the difference.

I'll certainly miss the Tunebug, but I've been struggling with a lack of time this summer, and don't see that getting easier anytime soon. With a full time job and a very full gig schedule (almost every weekend summer and winter these days, plus time for rehearsals and practice) I just don't have the time or money to keep both cars -- and the bike, and have time to hike, or camp, or see my wife occasionally.

Eventually our stuff starts to own us, and I'm at that point. Time to simplify. Besides, I never believed I would own these cars forever. The Sprite is the first sports car I ever owned, really (the TR4 didn't last long enough to really count, as it never really ran properly). There are lots of cars I'd like to try before I'm done, and without a Jay Leno budget I have to move one on before I can try another one.

The Tunebug's taught me a lot of lessons, and I've enjoyed my time with him and had some good drives and good nights in the garage. I'm proud of what I've been able to do to get him back on the road. I feel like I'm sending him out into the world better than when he came to me, and I'm good with that.
You sure did, and had fun in the process. I myself have too many things but I just can't bear to face the reality of that. I hope you get what you want for it and put it in a good home. I'm sure there is someone out there near you looking for a Bugye.

It's worth getting through it and simplifying. Our stuff does start to own us after a while.

I often think of the LBCs I've carefully restored over the years, then in most cases sold them, reluctantly! Some I *really* hated to part with but had to due to financial reasons, work, family, etc., etc.

But in the end, as with other, collectible antique objects, these cars may very well outlast us. If the future owners take good care of them, our former LBCs may be around for many years to come. Really, it's plausible that your LBC could be around for another century or more, under the right circumstances . . .

Knowing this, it's nice to recall that there's a piece of me in every one of those LBCs I owned (not to mention a nice chunk of my hard-earned money and time :cryin:).

In fact, our LBCs may outlive us in some cases, surviving only because of the effort, time and money that we put into them.

So, inevitably we leave our mark upon these cars, for future generations to enjoy. At least that's how I like to view it.

Strange, but true . . . :yesnod:

I fully expect Miss Agatha to out live me by many many years.

These babies seem to find good homes. My seller 'bout cried.
I could hear his pain.
Same thing from his seller, I'm sure.
I know it will be like that for me.
Absent an accident, God forbid, there is no limit
to how many times someone can take this Sprite and make it their own. Rebuilding modifying...it's all fun.
50 more years should be a piece of cake.
Those who buy them...WANTED one and sought one out.
Good start towards a good home.
