It's time to replace a muffler!

[ QUOTE ]
I don't need stainless, the driving conditions here don't warrant it.

JB, if you make lots of short trips and thus creating water and not drying out the system, stainless might be worth it.
Just my two yennies worth. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Ahh, never thought of that. I take the B everywhere, whenever possible (i.e., no rain/snow) and a lot of trips are short, 5-10 minute ones up town for this or that.

Thanks.

Dahubby has the muffler and pipes off. Says the mufflers look like they're in good shape. IF he can get the front pipe off he's just replacing it.

Now I want a new purdy muffler. GRRRRRRR. X your fingers when he tries to get it off, he breaks something!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Should I have the radiator cleaned up a bit on the inside too since it's going in anyway? Don't they rattle chains around in them or something?

I was going to recommend the stock exhaust kit from Moss Motors as I am happy with mine.

However according to the on-line Moss catalog - it looks like you may have to order the Stainless Steel exhaust system after all. It looks like they don’t make a stock exhaust system for 75 (single carb no cat). But then you might check Victoria British to see I if they offer one for 75, or as many others have done - you could try going to a local muffler shop and have one made for you.

The difference:
For 75 Moss "only" offers the expensive stainless exhaust @ $332.
While for 76-80 Moss still offers a “stock” exhaust for $147. Up slightly (<$10) in price from last year when I got mine.

FYI the only difference between the 75 exhaust system your car uses and the later cat equipped systems, is that yours requires a longer down pipe. So if your existing down pipe is in good condition you could just order the center (front muffler) & rear (rear muffler) sections a-la-cart and save a few bucks.

444-415 Front muffler $59
444-420 Rear muffler $59

Also don’t forget that most of the old mounting hardware is probably in need of replacement too

Okay here's the story. The mufflers look fine. The down pipe is connected to the manifold with that #42 piece. That #61 piece somehow worked loose. Right there where the pipe goes into the manifold. Thus the noise and heat (right?) The #42 thingy won't fit back properly on the pipe now, so it's up at the shop (guy's going to 'hammer' it out for us) and it's all getting put back together. Radiator is at the radiator shop now to repair that leak I found yesterday.

So no Peco. ~SNIFF~ But on the upside, should be reasonably cheap to fix and back on the road in a day or so (depending on radiator guy)

Then--onto the speedo. I'm getting a new core first, doing that. I don't want to spend $120 if I don't have to, because that's 2/3 of my carpet kit. So we start with the easy stuff first and go from there. In fact, other than being annoying and the risk of costing me a ticket or two, I can live with that!

RUT ROH!

Guy with the downpipe called. It's fixed. Charge is $40. Dahubby blew a gasket. Said he could buy a whole new pipe for that. So he left with the Moss catalog in hand. ~gulp~

Not sure the Moss catalog is going to help with the kind of gasket your husband needs now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Good luck!

And our dot's not a cardiologist either!

Okay, came home, with the pipe and paid bill. NOT happy. I looked at the bill and there's half hour labor and a $1.95 'administrative' charge and a $3.95 charge for removal of toxic waste.

So I got annoyed. Went up there, asked for my check back. Tore it up, rewrote it for $32.86 (less the $4.90), smiled and walked out.
