It's the little things in life that torture a person

I've had those fancy watches before. Now, I'm a Timex fan.

Back to the original post: it's called "Death by a Thousand Paper Cuts".

Same here. I replace the batteries, but when the strap wears out, I replace the whole shebang. Wasteful I suppose, but cheaper than a new strap. And I adjust the time once, when I buy it. After that, not necessary except for battery changes.
