Jack says the cost is the same--well kinda, its the performance cam, big pistons, the balancing high lift rockers etc etc. i think cost is at least double.Only want to do this eng once.I did mention to my wife it might cost just a few more dollars.

BUT, if you plan on selling it, you might want to leave well enough alone. It's been my observation that most buyers, myself included, aren't willing to spend much on someone else's rebuild. Receipts (might) provide an insight as to what parts were used in the refresh, but there's always a question about the quality of the work. I think most of us hedge our bet by buying in on the low side. I would think that it will be hard to get out of the 1098 what you're about to spend.

Seems you've made you're mind up to move to a 1275 (good decision)...if it were me, I'd be spending my money on it.

Remember that the 1098 came in two forms: early, with 948 size main bearings and late, with bigger mains. Neither did very well in racing. Among other things I remember from the period are bad oil distribution at high RPM, an imbalance that could not be solved with a balance job and as a result of the two aforementioned problems, ate rod bearings as well as mains. For street use, they are great and will do the job but everyone who worked for BMC dealers in the day were very glad to see the 1275's come along.

Ok time to hide my cost estimate for 2008, and start ordering 1275 parts. I wonder how happy my Sprite will be with a 100 horse.
Waiting until official report from machine shop, should be here by Tuesday night.

Saving receipts can be evidence in a divorce case!!

On my personal cars, I keep receipts long enough to know the part is what I need & works - & I never figure the total of the restoration!

im guessing im under $2000 so far,
but i need to paint, add new rear
shocks, a windshield and who knows
what else!
i should have a mostly new car for
around $3500....
think ill wait till im done to add
