It's coming, but hit another snag

Well my GT is coming along but I've hit another snag. The brake light on the dash stays on all the time. The only way to shut it off is to disconnect the battery. I was changing all the fuses the other day and the light went out for awhile but came back on within an hour. should I rebuild the master cylinder? the fluid was pretty bad looking but we flushed the system and it looks pretty good now. If I have to I will rebuild it but if that isn't it it won't do me any good. anybody have any ideas? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Not sure of the year you have, but the brake "test" light is notorious for being flakey. Maybe not to worry unless you've done some brake work recently, or the brakes are acting weird. Do a forum search on brake light - there's lots of tips of troubleshooting the light *before* doing any real work.

One stupid thing that is easier to check is the silly switch on the hand brake. Mine had flipped out and was causing it to stay on all the time. To access it easily, you need to pull the passenger seat which is a pain you need to experience if you have not already. The switch is remarkable since the top actually screws on. Because of its location and crumby plastic threading, it seems prone to screwing up. I would check that before you really got into the whole brake system.
