Some things must be passed on. Such is this Worcester, MA newspaper article.

"Driver picks wrong man
By Kim Ring TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFF

OAKHAM — A 32-year-old Oakham man who was allegedly tailgating a Jeep Cherokee, then wielded a 16-inch plumber’s wrench and shouted at the Jeep’s driver, picked the wrong guy to hassle: Police Chief Donald A. Haapakoski.

The alleged road rage incident landed David P. Lindberg of 236 Bullard Road in court yesterday. He was summoned to Western Worcester District Court in East Brookfield to face charges of disorderly conduct, attempting to commit a crime and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The police chief and his wife were driving on Fisherman’s Road in Rutland about 9:40 p.m. Jan. 23 when a pickup truck following the Jeep got so close, “I couldn’t see the headlights” in the rearview mirror, Chief Haapakoski wrote in a report.

When the Jeep, which isn’t equipped with blue lights, stopped at Route 122, the truck’s high beams were on and the chief drove away, but the truck quickly caught up and began tailgating again before passing on a double yellow line on Route 122. The truck then turned onto Old Turnpike Road, the report states.

Chief Haapakoski had called the on-duty Oakham officer to alert him that the truck’s driver might be impaired. Once on Old Turnpike Road, the truck driver stopped, blocking half the road and forcing the Jeep to stop behind him. The driver climbed from the truck “yelling and swinging” a large wrench, the chief wrote in his report. When the chief got out of the Jeep hoping to take the truck driver into custody, the man jumped back into his vehicle and fled. Police followed onto Hunt Road, Happy Hollow Road and eventually into Barre, where the vehicle was stopped on Route 32.

Mr. Lindberg allegedly smelled of alcohol but was able to pass field sobriety tests and offered to explain his actions.

Mr. Lindberg told the chief that he had places to go and the chief was driving too slowly. Once he passed the Jeep, he thought the headlights were too bright so he stopped, grabbed his wrench and planned to smash the headlights. He said he didn’t intend to assault the chief or his wife.

He was released on personal recognizance and is due back in court May 21 for a pretrial hearing."

Anyone want to take a bet on the outcome???

Amazing how some people feel actions like those are justified and perfectly acceptable. I don't like sharing the road with people like that. :nonod:
