Just test started the TR6 following the installation of my new BPNW TH5 cam and a 100 thou head shave to get to 9.0:1CR.
Have still got to get the cooling system all reinstalled but gave the key a turn and to my astonishment it started.
Messing with that valve timing not to mention pulling and reinstalling the distributor and drive gave me the willies, mostly because it's a pile of work to get that timing cover back off if the valve timing is wrong.
Anyway, not long now and we'll see what these mods do to the performance, the cam alone is supposed to get about 15HP more.

Well done Graham. It is a scary moment turning that key for the first time after work like that. It can either end up with disaster or delight! I've had one of each!!

I'm hoping that I'll be firing mine up by Weds. Keep me posted on your progress. I want to hear what you think of the cam and performance gains.

Everything is buttoned up now except I still have to put the "bonnet" back on, a 2 man (or 1man+1woman with a lot of bellyaching) job.

So far I've just had it idling and I certainly notice that it's "lopier" than before because of the cam I guess but it's not bad, just have to have the idle closer to 1000rpm than 850rpm.

Looking forward to geting it onto the street to try it out 'cept I have to give it time for the cam and tappets to acquant themselves.

Graham,

Just out of curiosity, is your camera broken?

Got to be honest, the only pics I took were the ones as I dismantled and only then for possible reference on valve timing. Had my hands so full of gunk I didn't take any pictures putting it back together, It looks no different after the new power than it did before. The picture of the head is after the 100 thou shave, they did a nice job and checked the valves which only needed lapping.
After seeing what you did with yours I think I'll just keep the bonnet shut and enjoy the new power.

Hi Tomster....
My son and daughter both live on Jasper avenue at 113 street and 120 street so with my new bits in the engine I'm sure to be cruising around downtown fairly often.
I'm planning to join the Edmonton Classic Sports Car club this month, I think they meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month in St.Albert.

So last night I decided to take a test spin in the TR6 with the new TH5 cam and higher Compresion Ratio; now bear in mind I still haven't reinstalled the bonnet yet, so I'm rolling down a residential street near home marvelling at the new power under my foot, I put the brakes on at the stop sign and all the spanners and screwdrivers that I inadvertently left on the flat bit (where the wiper motor resides) decanted onto the road all around the car.
Now this could have been embarrasing if it wasn't for the fact that there were several pedestrians at the intersection helping me pick up all my scattered tools while the traffic patiently waited behind me. At least everyone vocally admired the car no matter what they thought of the moron driving it!

Graham,

Do you actually think that you're the first to achieve moron status for leaving tools there??

Sometime when you have a week, I'll tell you where I've left tools over the years that proved to be totally embarassing for a professional at that time.

I just want to tell you that I really like the color of your car. Very sharp and you keep it up rather nicely. I also like the fact that, you too, have no bumper over riders and that makes the cars look really nice, IMHO.

PS - I'm glad that your camera wasn't broken....
