It stops...just not very well!

Well, I got my remfg dual circuit master cylinder the other day. I swapped the reservoir, bench bled it and installed it. I was able to bleed all brakes just fine and didn't see and immediate leaks. I took the car for the first drive since putting the car back together after painting, etc. The car smoked a bit(white smoke...hopefully just water in fuel and not and engine/cooling problem), made a few weird noises, and really didn't stop well at all. Honestly, I really hadn't inspected the front brakes that well other than checking pad thickness and that the wheels didn't hang up when spinning. Amazingly enough, I found out why they spun so freely and whey it didn't stop very well. When I disassebled tonight, the front hubs weren't bolted to the rotors.

Live and learn....

Lucky you, could have been really bad.

Whoa Nelly!

Glad you found *that* problem!

Drew, its nice you got the car out and got to drive it. Congrats. Also, it seems your lesson was a cheap one. I often think about the difference of driving our lbcs and driving modern iron. I always question everything, and keep an eye on all gauges.

I just drove it around my neighborhood for 5-10mins. Wow, it actually stops when I hit the brakes!!! I think I need to flush the cooling system though and put in a new head gasket maybe. It's putting out some white smoke and I could smell the burning coolant when I parked it. Then again, it could be burning lots of stuff since there is all kinds of junk in that engine bay from the last 5 months of my working on it. I put some dry-gas in the tank just in case there is water in the tank....maybe thats the white smoke if I'm lucky.

take it easy - Drew

p.s. It's much better driving it than looking at it!
