It only took me four years!

When the brake pedal went completely to the floor/-grinning wasn't exactly what I was doing!!!Stayed out of trouble by running 2 stop signs and coasted by my shop in neutral - made a pass around the pasture and coasted back to our shop- RANTING my husband says "Why didn't you use he emmergancy brake?- THE BIG CHROME HANDLE BY MY KNEE (56 Mercury).........my immediate response was "How much LIFE INSURANCE did you take out on me????????

Had the same experience a few years ago when just getting into downtown bout midnite & brake pad fell off. Used engine to stop for lights because emergency stick never worked. Used the interstate to finish trip home cause figured was safer than streets with stoplites. SWMBO not pleased! Car going to rehabers next week, guess I shud put e-brake on the fix list. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/troll.gif

If you neglect to perform routine maintenance on your daily driver.

You can almost get that wonderful out of control/racing feeling from a simple commute.

Well, sometimes, it's just exciting getting to the bottom of the steep hill that is your driveway.... Especially when the only real working brakes you have are connected to the handbrake. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Don't ask! But I drove it like that for 3 months.

Love the smiley - Yes many days of those 3 months, my face made exactly that expression.

I'm now that slow guy that everyone hates - staying behind the guy in front of me by at least 2 football fields /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif - even in my cars that have good brakes!

had a similar brake problem in a 1980 Suzuki Jimny that I drove around in Okinawa... drove around using the e-brake to stop while waiting on brake pads. Later, had a rear UJ blow out so I disconnected the drive shaft and put the transfer case into 4-high and drove it around as a front wheel drive until I got a new rear UJ. Interesting thing about the e-brake in that thing was it went to a drum brake attached to the transfer case and it put the brakes on both the front and rear drive shafts... nifty piece of engineering /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As for the MGB, as many already know, my voltage regulartor was going wonky and letting the voltage swing to some pretty bad extremes. The headlights would go from a shade of orange (dimmer than the typical slightly yellow headlight glow) to an extremely bright white. I swapped it out for one of those '80 Ford Fiesta Bosche alt'naters. Since doing this job and the battery finally recieved full charge, my charging light only glows in one condition: if the heater fan is going and the wipers are going at the same time. I can have all other electricals going and the charge light will be out. The heater blower will make the faintest of glows on the charge light. The wiper motor, however, seems to put a pretty hefty strain on the charging system; especially if it's not raining (no water to lube the wiper blades).
