Well..... the motor on the V8 is basically back together and the top part is close with just the FI plenum and hook ups to go there . Still have the rad and all the coolant stuff to put back on but that has to go last.
Finally pulled the PAS rack out and boy that was a bear. Had to drop the subframe and jack up the motor to get that out.
Dirty job!

Ended up completely removing the subframe and the oil pan to have them PC'ed and renew the pan gasket . I think the bolts on that ARE suppose to be TIGHT.
Finally got the last 996 rad fan installed in the bracket today too. Thinking about changing the way the computer controls them.
Up to date foe ya.

Don,

What's wrong with the rack? Those rarely fail. Is it leaking or locking up?

Leaking like a sieve. I have a 7 manual rack brand new. That will go in,in it's place and I will send this one off to Woody to have it rebuilt.I would like to give it different hoses as I think those don't help.

How can you tell with all that oil from the motor and the fluid from the rack all over the place.
YUK!

I know when I turned the wheel lock to lock last year when I rebuilt the suspension fluid leaked from the bellows.

There are two different ratio TR7 racks. One is around 3.9 lock to lock and one is around 4.7 lock to lock. I would have to go and drag a couple out to be sure on those numbers, but anyway. Unless you are planning on autocrossing the car, I would go with the slower ratio rack. It makes low speed turning a little easier. I just put a brand new quick rack in a car, and combined with wider tires, it requires big arms at low speeds. I'm hoping it loosens up a little as the car gets driven some more, because this one seems harder than any of the ones I have done in the past.

Yep.

I'm not near mine at the moment, but I seem to remember a soft rubber seal on the circumference of the fan frames; snugs them up against the radiator fins. Am I imagining that; do you have them?

Thanks for reminding me about those!
Would have ticked me off to find them after the install

Todd- I think I have the slow one. It's a brand new one from Rimmer I bought from someone on the list who thought it was a PAS one.
