Well, Mine aint!
Man.... I really can't afford this right now.
Stupid compressor just hums and clicks...all the stuff in the freezer melted,
POS Kenmore! and it's only 5 years old!!!!!
I will NOT be going back to Sears to get a replacement.

Re: Is your refridgerator running?

google symptoms - might be the compressor - might be the mother board - still a pain but can be a cheaper pain

Re: Is your refridgerator running?

That sucks, Ben. They used to ALL be made by White-Westinghouse in Pgh. Meaning it shouldn't be an exotic fix for an appliance repair outfit. I'd be on to Sears and tell 'em five years is unsatisfactory. 20 is more the "normal" and without some kind of pro-rata help with the remedy your next appliances will ALL be LG... from Home Depot or the like.

Re: Is your refridgerator running?

I have a Kenmore and it lasted exactly 5 years and one month before it broke (just before Christmas last year!)..... 5 year warranty. It needed a new capillary tube and drier bulb. Luckily, a good buddy of mine works at a used furniture store repairing appliances. He took it a repaced the lines and bulb and recharged it for 60.00.

Sears wanted 75.00 response fee, almost 100.00 per hour + parts to come out and look at it. :nonono:

Re: Is your refridgerator running?

Compressor gets it's signal, comes on with a heavy buzz. If I tap it it wobbles a bit, and I can hear the innards slowly turning. when it kicks off it emits a heavy click. Definitely a compressor.
Blankity blankin blankity blank!!!!
Cost of repair would equal, if not exceed the price of a base model new one.
Tomorrow is fridge shoppin day.
Worst part is SWMBO... She gets mean about stuff like this.

Re: Is your refridgerator running?

Too bad you don't live closer. I have a 15 year old GE in my garage that is the best running fridge I've ever owned. We replaced it about 5 years ago when we remodeled our kitchen because it was white. The "new" black one has never run as good. I kept the old one for a "beer fridge" and for the extra freezer space. To be honest, when the new one goes out, I may just paint it black and move it back into my kitchen!

Re: Is your refridgerator running?

Unplug it and let it cool down overnight.

I left the door open on mine and it did the same thing. The comp got hot and locked up. I let it cool down, plugged it in and beat the crap out of it with a dead blow hammer and it ran great ever since.

Re: Is your refridgerator running?

I let it stay unplugged overnight. Mainly because the compressor was humming, then kicking off, and I was concerned of a fire hazard. Threw a bag of ice in one of the crisper drawers to keep things ok, and moved all the freezer stuff to the mini freezer on the porch.
This A.M. it still did the same thing.
Well, I can't let things alone. It's part of why I'm a tec for a living. I figured it's junk anyway, so I did some research on how to fix it, and I found that without lots of expensive tools, I'm not going to be messing with the "sealed system" on a fridge. Darn!
But I found an article on testing compressors and their associated electrical systems.
First it said to check the compressor starter relay and overload unit. This is done by removing the relay from the side of the compressor and shaking it. if it rattles, it's junk. ( a common failure)
VIOLA!
A trip across town,$42 bucks later, and the fridge is contentedly humming away as it cools back down!
I'm a happy person this morning.

Gotta love the 'net. Fixed the dislay in my stove in a similar fashion, $.39 resistor and back in business. Sure beat the $300 replacement cost.

Glad to see it works. Sorry you didn't get the satisfaction of beating it with a hammer. :hammer:

Re: Is your refridgerator running?

Yep, good on ya! The internet blogs are invaluable {at least to me} when it comes to things i`m inclined to try to repair but have little or no knowledge of their innards and how they work! They have saved me some serious money on my washer, dryer, fridge, furnace/air conditioning unit and dishwasher so far. I have even retrieved some very good tips on where and from whom the best prices on parts can be had! No i`m no tech, i`m Scot .... BUT ... I can squeeze the crap out of a buffalo nickle!

Re: Is your refridgerator running?

Good catch, Ben.

This washer is in the second phase. Bearing in the base is toast, had to resort to weasel pee just to get the agitator off. After scopin' out the innards, I'd have another 6 hours and $40 in it. Not gonna do it. I know ~me~ and it'd turn into a total resto. It's a washing machine. I'm easily as pecuniary as Kerry, can usually repair about anything from Copal shutters to Ferraris. This is NOT worth the time it would take so I'm off to Woody's Used Appliances! They deliver and haul off th' old corpse, they're half a mile away. Problem solved.

...told Horsemits she'd have one chance to throw that rock at me, but not 'til after I have clean chilipeppers. And I get a ten yard head-start.

Re: Is your refridgerator running?

Doc, I'm with ya.

Still feels good to :hammer:

Re: Is your refridgerator running?
