My older brother sent me an email from Iraq to drive down to Roseburg and pick up this mgb for him. $400 for a pretty complete MGB roadster with a hard top in pretty good condition except for no rear glass, and some rust through on the driver side footwell. Dog legs looked good, trunk looked good and engine bay looked good. He told me that by the VIN it wasn't an OD model (another prospective buyer from Sweet Home told him that). It looked like one to me, so I purchased it for my brother. Attached is photo, is this what I thought it was? This looks like an OD unit to me -- it says Laycock.

(I hope the photo attaches)

sorry can't get the one photo from underneath to show up on the thread. however, the unit says laycock on it and attaches to the end of the transmission with some wires sticking out.

Looks like a pretty good deal - I'd be interested in knowing what the complete VIN is...

here's what is on the title.... GHN5U393473G. I told him that if he didn't want the od unit i could use it on my triumph wagon....

GHN5U393473G is a 1976 MGB...here's a breakout of the VIN:

G = MG
H = 1400-2000cc engine
N = 2-seat tourer
5 = 1969-79
U = North America
393473 = car number - 1976 model built in Nov '75
G = built at Abingdon factory

Nowhere in the VIN does it (or did it ever) state that a car came with or without OD....I couldn't see the transmission photo but it sounds like it has one - that makes it an even better deal!

Now, can you post a photo of the hardtop? We may be able to help you can get a back window if we can identify it...& if you have a factory hardtop, your brother scored big time with the combination!
