Is this normal?

I was looking into my battery compartment and much to my surprise I saw the road from several angles. Is this normal, or am I missing some lower panel of some sort?

When searching the internet to find the answer, I came across this item, and wanted opinions on whether it was worth it or not?

Your battery bins have rusted out which is typical. These plastic bins are cheaper at Victoria British.

Maybe and Maybe not. The original battery compartment was not much more that a frame work of angle iron with an open bottom.
Cheers,

You're probably OK....This is (almost) what your battery box should look like. Mine has been altered to accomodate a four-link rear suspension. From the factory, it is open on the front, back, and bottom.

This is a 1974-1/2 MGB/GT.

Dag Nabbit.

EVERY time I scroll through the forums, and see "Is this normal?", I keep thinking of Kryten when he gets to be a Human, and in the medical bay on Red Dwarf keeps asking "is this normal"...........

Dang.

As long as the angle-iron is intact you're OK. One issue to be aware of is that there is a potential for buildup of explosive gases if you put your battery inside one of those plastic bins.

I never though of that. I guess drilling a hole might help to vent it out some. I just worry about acid causing damage to the frame or the surrounding area.
