I've hear that Healey's made a lot of changes during production.

So, what's you take on this Healey currently on Ebay.
It's a 65 BJ8

Note that the rear has single stop/directional and a reflector.

The front has separate park and signal. I thought the front should have a single lamp?

Here's the interesting part. Look at the size of the directional. I thought that when the Healey's made the change to separate parking and signal lights, they were the same size?

Looks like a mish-mash of Swedish-German export parts, though it would've had a steering column lock too.

Seems that the Swedish-German cars had the double lights, but all of the smaller/original size. Of course, the only one (1) I ever saw was a BT7 version (rollup windows being for sissies... ).

I can't picture the back end; did they double up on those lights too?

A quick look at the car - I believe the car to be a pretty standard early Phase II single indicator BJ8, but very likely at some time the front shroud was replaced with a shroud from a later twin indicator light BJ8. If you look in the engine compartment you can still see the flasher relay on the left front inner wheel well.

I bet if you look at the wiring for the front indicators, how it is wired (i.e. looking factory or looking jerry rigged) will tip you off on this.

Since most cars tend to get hit in the front somewhere when in an accident, the replacement of the shroud at sometime past is very likely.

This is likely not a German spec BJ8.

The mountings are the same so the PO can put either lights on and they will fit. This doesn't mean much.

I think german spec lights were actually different than the standard Lucas Beehive lens.

car also has a TR6 dizzy cap. The car looks pretty decent, just lots of funny little bits.

It looks like it has had front end work. The valance between the bumper and the body is missing. It could be a mix of two (or more) cars. I wonder what rear suspension it has, if it is '65 it should have dipped chassis and radius arms (this came in in mid '64) not just springs and a panhard rod. Larger amber rear indicators came in in mid 65. It would need a very careful look before purchase.

I think that a BMIHT Certificate would reveal that this is a Euro-spec Healey (exported to the continent), made during a transition when separate lights were required there, but before they went to equal-sized side lamps.

Thank you Reid. A very straight forward reply. I've not seen two different sizes up front.

I too saw a lot of other things, like many of the forum member are touching on. Rock on guys with your observations how Healey's evolved.
Cheers,
Roger

From the photos it looks like a nice driver that could see a real improvement from some basic mechanical love (carbs, ignition, cooling?).

Tahoe's observation is brilliant.

Check out the oil/temp gauge by comparing photos 15 and 16.

Just how long did they run it and how hot did get it with the damper in that position? I can't imagine my car would start or if it did, continue to run. That said, it wouldn't stop me from looking at it, and if it didn't run very well, it might turn out to be a bargain.

Hello everyone, I know my avitar is pretty much out of focus, but if you look at the front lights on my car they are the Euro lighting arrangement on a BJ7.
They are two small diameter glass lucas lenses. I do not believe that one small lens and one large is original on any of the cars. Also, I have two lights on each side at the rear. No reflector. And no flasher relay. My car was delivered to Germany when new. I also have a steering column lock and steering column ignition switch.

Dave.
