Is it worth it to go completely original?

Thanks guys, I'm enjoying the differing opinions and good discussion. This forum is great! Heck, Mr. Mace alone is great /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif . The whole forum is awesome.

I guess it's your car and your decision. I can't complain about any of the original rework or modifications made to *my* TR6 by the previous owner. He kept it fairly original, while making it more driveable. -They way I like it. If I'm lucky, it will never be on a trailer.

Wow, thanks! But even at the ripe old age of 54, I still think of "Mr. Mace" as my late father: he, the single least mechanically minded male ever to walk the planet, but the man who bought a brand-new Triumph 10 sedan in late 1958 and started me on this lifelong obsession (which he also maintained until his passing)!

I must admit my passion for early Spitfires is almost as deep at that for Heralds (hey, they're pretty closely related). I think it has something to do with my being 11 and getting a ride in my then-Sunday School teacher's powder blue Spitfire 4 on the way home from a field trip! Even at age 11, I recognized some similarities between it and the Herald 1200 convertible my dad had by that time.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
 
George..Now THAT's much better looking than a regular off the shelf modern battery...great compromise for looks and cost.
