My truck, a Chevy 1500 with a 350 engine, has always got around 17.5 MPG. I installed a set of Iridium plugs in it and on the last trip to Oklahoma and back I averaged 18.8 MPG. Not a big savings, but I figured I saved about 40 bucks for the trip. Just thought I'd pass it along. Since the plugs were 60 bucks, another trip out there and I'll have the plugs for free and made 20 bucks to boot.

Happiness is Lubbock Texas in your rear view mirror ...

I spent a very long 3 years in Dallas. It was truly a cultural shock for someone from the Northeast part of the US. It was like living in a different country. We used to pray for cloudy days because the summers were so hot. The winters were cold, and wet and the ice storms were worse than driving in 3 feet of snow. Being from Philly I was on the receiving end of many jokes about the north, rust belt , etc, etc. One day I was out to lunch with several locals and a visitor from Washington state. I think he felt bad for me after hearing a few of those barbs about Philly and after so much talk ad nauseam about everything in TX being bigger and better. So, he said (as though he had read it in the morning's newspaper, "I heard that Alaska has decided to divide the state into North Alaska and South Alaska. pregnant pause "well of course that means that Texas would become the 3rd largest state" The table was silent, but inside I was cheering!

That was 30 years ago and we still laugh about it!

I lived in Lubbock Texas. It's a nice town, as long as the wind is in the right direction. Stock yards! (Phew)!

Paul: Speaking of lakes, I just got back from a trip to our plant in Greenwood, SC. Boy, your lakes are really low. I hadn't realized just how bad the draught has been. :frown:

Yes they are. The farmers have had a hard time with their crops and have been praying for more rain. Funny but they don't irrigate here like they do in other states. Prohibitive cost I guess.
