PS: I went and looked at the iPad 2 the other day and all I can say is: "I want."

Demise of the PC can't be far off now.

My wife has an iMac and we have iPhones, and I want an iPad 2, but I can't see giving up my PC any time soon.

Not for those of us who use 'em for real "work". But for the Great Unwashed, the PC will become "excess to requirement", methinks.

My wife's work and many others got rid of their PC many years ago.
Like the Ipad 2 also.
Just wished it did more and didn't have an apple on the front

In addition to my wife's new iMac, I also have a Macbook (regular, not the pro). I really like the Mac, but one thing I like about the PC over the Mac is the availability of competitively-priced software. The proprietary nature of Apple software is another reason I still want to have a PC around. Also, for the money, I can get a pretty darned powerful PC these days as prices have really started to come down.

You just ~know~ what my next comment oughta be...

...somefin' 'bout penguins...

Well, since the Apple Newton came out in '87, I don't think Knight Ridder was really making a prediction.

When I read Knight Ridder, I left out the second "d". I was expecting David Hasselhoff to have some cheesy prop in his hands.

I did the same thing - was expecting to see David and Kit.

Tablets were predicted a lot earlier than 1994. Haven't you ever watched Star Trek? They had them in 1966!

ST was inspiration for a lot of stuff! (The flip phone comes to mind).

Seems the folks at Motorola have the whole Star Trek series on DVD (or VHS for the flip phone and Startac). They also make a barcode scanner called the phaser.
