Hi Everyone,

I just joined the forum today, but have owned my TR for about 15 years now. It is in a fair and driveable condition, but suffers from serious neglect. :whistle: I am married with two kids and other hobbies, and a remodel project that is not yet complete, but enough about my excuses.

I thought I would say hello, and Happy New Year to you all, and I hope to get to know a few of you this year. I plan to be a bit more active in my TR's life this year, and I am sure those of you that hang around here will be a good influence on me.

Happy New Year to you too. In order to devote more time to the TR, I recommend you drop that remodelling stuff as well as the other hobbies. You probably need to keep your wife and two kids though! Just kidding, great to have another Triumph guy in the group, and you have excellent taste in cars.

These guys can undoubtedly answer any Triumph questions you may come up with. They seem to disassemble 'em on a regular basis, so have real in-depth knowledge.

...unlike us MG guys, blissfully ignorant of the inner workings of OUR cars. :devilgrin:

Thanks for the warm welcome so far. I will try and dig up a few pictures, if I can. I think I stopped taking pictures of my car right about the same time I started taking pictures of my kids, but I might just be lucky and have a few in the archives.

If I can't find any, I will take some when the weather gets nicer...probably mid July.

Welcome to the Forum. There are many people here who I am sure will be a great help to you.
I have had my TR for 17 years, which is four years longer than I've had a wife and 7 and 9 years longer than I've had the kids!!
The TR certainly takes a back seat with family life. You have done well to keep the car, though. I find that TRs do fine on neglect!

Welcome, looks like we will all get our cars out about the same time around most of the country this year.

You have fine taste in models.
 
Welcome Ian! Glad you're getting your priorities straight and getting back to your TR.:smile: Seriously though, the little ones grow up frightenly fast so don't miss out. The TR won't grow up and leave home. And a very Happy New Year too.
 
Ian, I see that you have Seattle in your profile.

We have several great guys out there who can be a wealth of help and information for you. Stick around, I'm sure that they'll show by the end of the weekend.
 
Welcome Ian. Like me, I'm sure you will find this forum an invaluable fount of arcane TR knowledge that is hard to find elsewhere.

My advice on the pics would be to take them as your car sits today, the dirtier and rustier the better. This sets the bar nicely in the lowermost position so that as you make progress in your restoration, we can all marvel at how your car is improving. If you post pictures of your car when it looked perfect (years and several kids ago), it will be harder for us to think up nice things to say when you post progress pics :smile:

Have fun - my wife loves this hobby because it gets me out of her face and back into the garage where i belong :smile:

welcome aboard!! glad you found this place. as far as having a good influence on new members, that's up for debate... :devilgrin: seriously, great group here and it will prove to be an invaluble resource for you as it has for me.

and get some pics posted...we like pics.

oh, please excuse my lack of caps...i broke my arm new years eve and have to type one handed!!! somebody mentioned that one good thing to come from this will be increased dexterity in my left hand. i can already see a marked improvement. i can now open the child proof pain killer bottle with only my left hand! :laugh:

Well I guess I better head out to the garage tonight to snap some pictures. Should I leave the bags of old clothes headed to Goodwill on the boot, or put them in the passenger seat? :laugh:
 
Absolutely. Even better if you have chickens roosting on your dashboard.
 
Don't give those clothes away. You will need them as you progress in your restoration. The ones you use now will get too greasy and too dirty to clean and that nice lady you live with won't let you put them in her nice clean washing machine. Or the welding torch will cause them to catch on fire. Then you'll be glad you still have those old clothes you didn't give away. Just call it, "Goodwill to yourself". You'll be getting poorer by then anyway after you buy what you need for you Triumph restoration.

I met the wife of a chap who was restoring his 3rd TR. She related how four of their best college friends had recently gotten divorced. She added, "On Saturday night, I know where he is. He's not downtown in a bar trying to pick up a young chick. He's down in the garage - and I prefer that".
 
Generally, once restorations start, Saturday nights on the town end, chicks or not.....
 
I noticed several of you mentioned that evil "R" word - Restoration. Even though I said my TR would be getting more attention this year, she is not getting restored. I did a bunch of work to the car when I bought it 15 years ago and got it to where it is reliable (well, not entirely, it is a Triumph after all) and safe to drive (well, not entirely, it is a Triumph after all).

Now I just enjoy it when I can, replace what breaks, and the restoration will come when the kids are in high school and don't want to have anything to do with dear old dad.
