Hi Guys,

Just thought I would post a few pics of my new project that I picked up a few weeks ago.

Introducing my new to me 59 TR3A, TS44836LO









I bought the car from a gentleman who bought it in 1969. It was his first car. He drove it until about 1975 when it was parked away in a garage where it sat ever since.

It is in not too bad a shape overall but has some bad areas that will need some attention. The sills were replaced back in the 70's (not well) when it was repainted a horrible 71 Ford Burgundy Fire Metallic... Front drivers side fender has a good crease in it where the front tire came off after lugs nuts were not tightened before a drive...

The interior is shot as while it was being stored, racoons got in and destroyed the interior. This isn't a big issue for me as I have a full red interior in the basement from the 1960 that I am working on currently. The good thing is that according to the heritage certificate, the car was originally black exterior, red interior and fawn top and screens. I believe the car will be going back to the original black.

The car has overdrive and a factory steel hardtop and the optional rear seat.

I have quite a few parts left over from my 1960 restoration that I will be able to use on the 59 where need be. The plan is to keep this one as stock as possible. It will be nice to have the 60 that is a little modded vs the 59 that will be set up in stock form.

I did get the car started a couple of weeks ago (video is on Youtube) after not being run in 39 years. Sounded pretty good and had good oil pressure..tough little cars these...

I think that this car is going to be a real challenge to take apart though..just getting it to move required the removal of the brake calipers...1 came off after breaking one of the 2 mounting bolts. The second is still on there after breaking another bolt...I was able to punch out the brake pads enough to get it to roll. Im going to have to give all the fasteners a good soaking of penetrant over the next few weeks to give me half a chance..wish me luck!

And a hearty congratulations on the new project! That'll keep you out of trouble for a while ...

First time in many moons that I've seen the sidecurtains that don't use the LTD studs.

Say, does the hard top have a headliner?

And when you get a chance to post a photo of the engine bay ...

Tush, looks like you made a good purchase. I was also going to ask you if the hardtop had an headliner in it. I'm working on mine and was hoping to see what one looked like. If you have one in yours, could you post a picture or two of it? Thanks.
 
Congrats Tush. You will need to move to a place with a bigger garage for your fleet. Are you going to get fleet rates for insurance? BTW, I love all your videos. See you December 6th at Syl and Liz's.

Thanks guys. Sorry, the hardtop doesn't have the headliner in it. Actually, it doesn't have a full fitting kit either. It is more or less just sitting on there right now.

Will post some pics of the engine bay.

I can't believe my eyes.... I thought I had the only TR3 painted burgundy fire metallic ! My car was originally white with red interior. My dad had it painted the nasty burgundy it is in the 80's. Congratulations on your new friend !

Great find, nice options and original color scheme, get it going (and stopping) and drive it around a little bit to see what is working well and what not, you are right, they are tough little cars and not easy to kill, the best thing about getting it going you can have a blast bombing around in it and not having to worry about scratching the paint!

At this point , I think I'm just going to clean her up a bit and give her a quick paint job. I still want to take the body off the frame though to clean and paint the chassis as well. I figure if I'm going to take all the panels off, I might as well go ahead and pull the tub.

I plan on using my stock of old parts to contribute to the refurb where need be. I have a worn but serviceable full red interior that will get utilized. I will need to buy carpet and a hew wiring harness though. I plan on doing all new brake/fuel lines, bushings etc. to make her safe. Some new tires and possibly rims to finish it off.

That's the plan right now anyway...although, when I started the 60 resto 5 years ago, I said I was just going to paint it...

Your latest acquisition is 917 cars after my TS43919L (if I did my math right).

Mine is a survivor (preservation car?) with 64K miles, no OD or Hard Top.

I'm the 2nd owner & have much of the car's history, including the original Yokohama license plate (aluminum).

PS Thanks for your restoration posts on YouTube.

Might be able to start working on it slowly in the new year. I still have quite a few small things to complete on the 60 before moving onto the 59.

Aloha Tush,

I have TS44864LO in storage. Does yours have the 4.1 diff? The Heritage certif says it was made the morning of 25 Feb, 1959.
