Intrigued by Petrol Injection engines.

Rob,
" BTW the 2500 PI sedans sold in the UK had a de-tuned engine similar to the US TR6s and only made just over a 100HP"

No that is not correct, it had a quoted power about 18 less than the 150 of the TR 5\6 due to a slightly softer cam, but well above the U.S. engine.

Alec

You're right Alec - my bad. The TC came with 100HP, and the Mk2 PI sedan ran 132HP. When I lived in Australia my brother had a PI sedan with (for some reason) a TR6 PI engine - the full 150HP. A real sleeper sedan. Till the fuel pump overheated in the Ozzy sun. Always carried a jug of water in the boot to pour over it so the car would run again.

Rob.

I'm intrigued in taking the PI intakes and replacing the mechanical fuel distributor/lines/injectors with modern electronic injectors/'puter.

Like the guy with the Stromberg bases with one injector each in them.

This would be true MPI, and has been done on old school V-8 Hilborn type stack systems.

So then the system would look , ah... , similar to the original PI without the implied hassel of all the moving and pulsing parts...

There's a joke in there somewhere I just know it.

In fact check this out:

https://www.force-efi.com/stacks.htm

Also, click on home then look down the left side to the link about their weber throttle bodies....

Mighty Spiffy.

I'm willing to carry out a fully funded research project here... Anybody funding?

Kasners Competition Preparation Manual, Pg.11, Fig.4, about 23 more HP with fuel injection versus 2 175 ZS's. This was on a dyno. Also, what I am hearing from the Fatherland, more HP with 2 SU's than 3 ZS's, the only way to tell is with a dyno. I have the ZS's, I don't like them. No doubt I would get more power and much better fuel milege with PI. HP is only a guess without a dyno. I also hate to think what the gas milege would be with 3 ZS's. If you make more power it takes more gas, more gas needs more air. I don't believe 3 gets better gas milege and more power. I have yet to see a TR6 on the street that will even come close in acceleration to my stock Ranger P/U truck, I can also out corner a TR6, not even close. I have both, I know. If you want to go fast, buy something else.

Wow! That looked really funny till I got to the end
product. Now that looks sweet. Pricey, but sweet.

2W. if you are all that enthralled with PI,check out the TBI system that uses the shells from the Z's.
I was wondering about running my PI 8 with a supercharger on it. would look sweet under the hood with that thing running down the center of the V,but what a mess to install and not to cheap either.

I've also heard that two SU's, properly tuned, can give more power than three ZS carbs. With that being said, I am running triple carbs and it doesn't get bad gas mileage..especially since I've added the overdrive.

At any rate, I've got this motor screaming like a banshee, but I've also paid a lot of attention to the ignition system and the air/fuel ratios of the carbs too (using o2 sensors and data logging). I'm still running a little rich, but not much.

With my little TR running like it is right now, I'd put it up against your Ranger. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif , about 2 years ago when I first put the engine together, it was everything an unsuspecting 98 Mustang GT could do pull away from me; and that's before I got it running good!

i'm not going to comment about the pulling away from, but a ranger weighs 3500lbs, and at best has 207hp...

i know for sure that the tr6 in the garage (when it runs) will handily out-corner the LR3 in the driveway, and i'd put that up against a ranger in a handling contest any day. to be fair though it's not on the stock suspension.

oh, and one uber-pricey tb setup that everyone forgot to mention was https://www.twminduction.com/ThrottleBody/tr6_fi.html - i'd love to know if anyone actually bought one of these.

Alan, so where's the price? I know, if I hafta ask,
I probably couldn't afford it.

True enough, I've been pretty content just
street'in. Not to say I don't like to go fast.

It's kinda like this: Fast for a TR6, okay?
I mean, hey, it's the whole experience; not just
any one thing.

So if it's just fast, well, we are talking a wholly
different car....make no mistake, in this regard,
the one that has me drooling is a Dodge Viper.

We've all said it: F-a-s-t = M-u-c-h-o D-o-l-l-a-r-s.

Price was disgusting when I asked a couple of years ago - about $4300. That was pre-production though. I have no idea what it finally came in at.

The new ZR1 does it for me rather than the Viper though if you are talking American. WW I'd still go 997 Turbo, but that's because I have a soft spot for porkers.
