I tried to put bolts up from the bottom into the transmission mount. No way, it will accept a quarter inch bolt up and through but not anything I think should go in there. Or maybe I don't have any, what is this.

Everything is aligned and free.

Ran for years before with em not installed but would like to have em in this time.
 
Did you tap the holes in the mount before you put the engine in? If not it's time to pull the engine back out! You were just test fitting it, right? But seriously, if you have a rod welded onto a tap you should be able to tap the holes in place. Phil
 
Jack, with the motor mounts loose, lever (with approprate protection of the paint) the engine back (between the dampener pulley and the front cross member) and forth (between the shifter hole in the tunnel and the tail of the tranny) until the side holes in the tunnel line up. Try the bolts underneath. If you can't get them, jack the front of the tranny / rear of the engine to give a little room for e bolt to find the mount. Once you start the bottom bolts remove the jack and get the side tunnel bolts in and then tighten the motor mounts.
 
I use a phillips head screw drivers #1 through #4 as line up punches through the holes you will be installing the screws into to line up the parts. Phil
 
Chris has the right approach. Sometimes tapping the mount gently towards the rear to line the edge up with the frame (with the weight lifted off as per Chris's advice)will help move the mount just enough to line the holes up. A jimmy or screwdriver will help line things up too, but use slight leverage - remember the threads!.
 
Transmission mount bolts for 948

Bottom: 3/8x3.25L 24tpi threaded length is 1"
Side: 5/16x7/8L 24tpi entire length is threaded. The 7/8 length includes 3/32 of pointed tip.

Everything is lined up guys, I just have no bolts this size and they are so long nothing even close to test with.

Side bolts are in, no prob there i just did not own the long ones.

Off to my major bolt place tomorrow.

Yep, the numbers are all right, if you don't have the 3/8 x3.25 bolts then there aint much to do till you get them eh! It's always something! Did you say you ran for years without them? Wow! Those four bolts (sides and bottom) really locate the driveline properly, and the big ones are the anchors!
 
No no. always the side bolts. It's the bottom ones you can do without. Mr. Donald really had overkill there.

I am told the race guys do not always use the bottom ones either, especialy if they have to change out a tranny at the track.
 
I don't use bottom bolts in the race cars. Jack ask me about my slave cylinder mod sometime to make that PITA top mounting bolt easier to deal with, old Spridget racer trick.
 
Got it Hap, and I am going to do that trick with the top bolt. Thanks for no bottom bolts. They are a real pain.
 
That's it, and I will do it, cause I cool, er lazy, er smart er something. Anyway a good idea.
